Safari Trails With Mckenzie Sims

For many people who have got their feet wet in South Africa and look to venture outside of the countries of South Africa and or Namibia to sticker price of these “Wild Africa” hunts seems to shock them and they quickly wonder why and start to complain saying its to expensive and don’t understand why and think the outfitters are just getting super rich off of them. I’ve traveled to and have hunted four other countries outside of South Africa and Namibia. Including Tanzania, Ethiopia, Cameroon, and Zambia. Some of my best friends own and operate these hunting companies in these countries and in talking with them I wanted to be able to share the WHY for you all to understand how the prices start to change drastically once you get out of South Africa.

My First Safari.

Here is the story of how my very first African Safari came to be. This was 15 years ago and 16+ safaris later and I tell you it’s become the greatest passion in my life. This Safari has led to some incredible experiences in Africa and into other parts of the world. It has provided me with incredible learning experiences and some lifelong friendships. It is also what started the passion that has brought me to creating all this content for you to learn more about a continent I love so much. I hope you enjoy this story and that it shows you even having some minor hiccups on a trip it’s not the end of the world and just rolling with the punches is far better than losing your mind and running the entire trip.

Remember if you enjoy it please share it with a friend and cheek out all the links below to a lot more free content and some of the products I truly believe in.

What does a Safari cost is a very common topic I see and get asked, and it is a huge misconception that going hunting in Arica is only for the rich and you have to be ultra-wealthy. In this video I break down some price comparisons between hunts here in the west and a Safari than I go in and walk you through the cost factors that make up a Safari and what cost to look for. This video was done in April of 2024 so please keep in mind if you are watching this at a future date prices changes and these prices might be out of relevancies. Disclaimer this video is just to give you an idea about what a hunt cost at no point am I giving financial advice. These prices are not set in stone it is a ballpark figure. I hope this video helps you out when planning your first or next Safari.

In 2018 while on Safari with Jason Stone in Zambia I sat him down and had a bref interview with him why hunting leopards is important and what it does for places such as Zambia.

With the Safari season really ramping up and the major time for first time Safari goers nearing (June-August) I want to emphasize on the importance of having a broker. What I mean by a broker is having someone here in the US that knows the ins and outs of the trophy shipping logistics for permits, ports of entry and so on. This is their full time Job on importing to the US and going through customs and boarder control they will know all the fine details and rules that for many of us would take so much more out of our busy lives to handle and could result in many unneeded storage fees and even loss of your trophies. Hear why you NEED a trophy import specialist for your African hunting safaris.
