Perhaps the best-kept secret in safety and risk management is the Primary Authority Scheme

Dave Lovell of DSL Consulting helped to set the system up, ran it for a couple of years and now helps clients to set up partnerships with Local Authorities

As we'll hear in the episode, this has various benefits when it comes to regulatory intervention

• getting "assured advice" which is valuable third-party validation of your processes

• protecting you against the vagaries of an individual enforcement officer's approach in different parts of the country

• demonstrating best practice for your insurers and other stakeholders

But, it also could have wider-reaching implications for example providing additional proof of compliance to your insurer, which may be reflected in your premium

In this episode of the Slip Safety Show we are joined by Richard Bowman, an internationally-acclaimed expert in the field of slips, trips and falls.

An author (with dozens of papers), and speaker on the topic of slips, trips and falls, since late 2005, Richard has been managing director of Intertile Research Pty Ltd, better known as Slipbusters. While Slipbusters undertake some routine testing, Richard is concerned about the longer term need for sustainable slip resistance. He prefers to be involved in research projects and the specification of products for the more complex and challenging situations. As an expert he inevitably becomes involved in some litigious matters, where his prime concern is to assist the court to understand the relevant issues.

In Richard's chat with Christian Harris, they touch on various technical factors about slip resistance but approached from a layman perspective to get the message across clearly and concisely.
