In this episode, Sage Oak alumni, Ava Woodgrift, shares how taking dual enrollment classes in high school is allowing her to graduate from the University of California San Diego with a Psychology degree 1 year early. The college credits Ava earned in high school were transferred to UCSD. As a result, she is able to complete her degree in less time.
What is dual enrollment?
Dual enrollment, or concurrent enrollment, is when students enroll in community college courses while in high school. Students earn both high school and college credits at the same time. These college credits can be transferred to a 4-year college or university and applied to degree requirements.

Gloria Farewell is the parent of an ambitious, accelerated 10-year-old Sage Oak student. In this podcast, Gloria shares how she partners with her Teacher Facilitator to curate a list of advanced curriculum and highly-engaging enrichment activities as well as how she blends multiple resources, learning materials, educational philosophies, learning styles, and languages together to keep her son challenged.
Gloria addresses common questions and concerns she hears from parents who are on the fence about an independent study model such as "will there be enough socialization," and "I'm not a teacher, how do I know if I'm doing enough?" Gloria shares how she provides an abundance of socialization for her son through participation in Sage Oak field trips and events, as well as lessons with our community providers. She also calms the fears of parents who don't feel equipped to teach their children by sharing her experience in partnering with her Sage Oak Teacher Facilitator. Gloria candidly shares how she leans on her Teacher Facilitator as an expert to guide her through advanced curriculum choices that can be one and two grades level above her son's current 4th grade level on certain topics of subjects while also holding her accountable for overall 4th grade standard mastery.
