    http://www.bruceschwab.com/

    About Bruce Schwab and OceanPlanet

Bruce Schwab is a lifelong marine services professional and two-time solo circumnavigator.
    Bruce Schwab Ocean Planet

As an adolescent he spent two years cruising with his father and brothers. Afterwards, settling in Northern California he led the Rigging Shop at Svendsens Marine from 1981 to 2000

During this time he restored his 1930 30sq Meter “Rumbleseat” (now based in Tortola as “Diva”).
After winning many crewed, double-handed, and solo sailing races, including the 1996 Singlehanded Transpac aboard Rumbleseat, he retired from Svendsens to oversee the design & building of the all-American Open 60 OceanPlanet. After completing his first circumnavigation in the 2002/2003 Around Alone Race, he came to Portland, Maine to refit OceanPlanet for the 2004/2005 Vendee Globe Race (solo, nonstop, around the world).
On February 25, 2005, Bruce became the first American in history to officially finish the Vendee Globe, and currently holds the American solo circumnavigation record of 109 days and 20 hours.
Since then he has devoted himself to providing clients anywhere in the world with the best marine energy storage and charging systems.
Now living in the mid-coast town of Woolwich, Maine, Bruce is an avid bicycle racer and regularly plays his collection of acoustic guitars.

  • Sailing in the Mediterranean Episode 90 Jack Edwards Arduino Autopilot
Sailing in the Mediterranean Episode 90 Jack Edwards Arduino autopilot
This week I have the opportunity to interview Jack Edwards. Jack Edwards is a retired mechanical engineer and sailor who keeps up boat in the Pacific North West. Jack has taken some very simple components and made them into an autopilot. The autopilot is based on the Arduino microcontroller and a few other called components that we discuss in this interview. If you would like to receive more information including schematics and the code which is used to make this project Jack is requested that you write him a direct e-mail. This e-mail address is [email protected]
Here is a link to the YouTube video which shows his initial prototype in action. He's improved upon this initial prototype and is now into probably his third iteration of his initial design.

Here is a link to another blog that talks about Jacks Arduino autopilot http://themarineinstallersrant.blogspot.com/2013/12/the-arduino-autopilot-that-jack-built.html
In the podcast I mentioned that I started learning to program the Arduino microprocessor by watching a series of lessons created for high school students. The website for these lessons is:
    http://www.toptechboy.com/arduino-lessons/
And the Arduino website is https://www.arduino.cc/
