A sermon for the 4th Sunday in Advent, in which Rachel Twigg invites us to consider what Joseph was confronted with in the story told in the 1st chapter of the Gospel according to Matthew, and how his decision relates to the long genealogy that precedes it.
In today’s show Jamie Howison speaks with Gerry Bowler, a man perhaps best-known as Professor Christmas seeing as he is the author of three books on the topic. Together they explore why this annual celebration is (most often) on December 25th, why it’s been a mixed blessing throughout the centuries and together they lament the lack of great Advent hymnody.
To find out more about Gerry visit his website and follow him on Facebook.

This podcast is created at saint benedict’s table, a congregation of the Anglican Church of Canada in Winnipeg. We’ve been podcasting since 2006 and put a renewed focus on this ministry in 2019.
Our goal is to provide rich and stimulating audio resources to the wider church and engage topics and issues relevant to the concerns and questions of the larger culture in which we live.
For the 2013 Advent season, saint benedict's table teamed up with Signpost Music to create a series of podcasts for the Anglican Church of Canada. For the 2019 season we decided it was time to again make them available to our listeners, and so over the course of the coming weeks we will be releasing one every few days.
This series of podcasts grew out of a book of daily readings we published in 2012, titled In Days to Come | Words for Advent and currently available as an Amazon e-book.

Rachel Twigg's sermon on Isaiah 11:1-10 and Matthew 3:1-12, preached on December 8, 2019, the second Sunday in Advent.
In today’s show Jamie Howison engages in conversation with Steve Bell, an award-winning singer/songwriter, storyteller and author, who describes his mission as one of “refreshing Christian faith and spiritual tradition for the weary and the wary.”
Of Steve’s Pilgrim Year series of books on the seasons of the Christian calendar, the theologian John Stackhouse has commented, “These meditations combine a scholar’s learning, a poet’s precision, a musician’s imagination, an adult’s realism, and a Christian’s faith – and faithfulness.”
