Today we will look at the health of a community by exploring the power words can have, either to bring life or death. Though dispositioned to speak destructively, as image bearers we are designed and called to bring life into this world. To heal not break.

Have you ever been invited to something you didn't want to go to? Or have you ever not been invited to something that you would have loved to go to? At the end of Jesus' ministry we find Jesus giving his ragtag group of disciples a monumental task - a task so big that it's by this task that the world will know that we are his disciples? What is this task? To love one another.

Have you ever felt like being a Christian is a bit like keeping up with Jones's? Somehow it feels like we are stuck on a Christian treadmill, never really getting anywhere. For many of us, it's almost as if the gospel has shifted over time. The excitement and freedom we felt at first has become burdensome and restrictive. What really is the gospel, and does it match with how I'm living?

Do you ever feel like you've made too many mistakes? How will people respond? How will Jesus respond? We long to be fully known, but we are fearful, because we don't feel safe. Today we see how Jesus meets Peter right where he's at, inviting him into a community of grace, and giving him a vision.

Being made in God's image we are designed for community. We long for community to celebrate the highs and lows, but we rarely "fully" disclose our hearts. Why? Naturally we have fear! Have you wondered how people would respond to you if you accidently slipped your deepest and darkest messiness? Risking Church is a series about taking steps to becoming a community - God's church - where we can be fully known because God shows us his grace together through transforming relationships.
