Continuing in watching movies from 2018 that Hank missed this week’s episode is a build up to Mamoru Hosoda’s Mirai. To really talk about that movie though Hank wanted to talk about it within the context of his entire career, so Ben obliged and burned through all his major films, starting with The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

Also we talk a bit about Animorphs.

Also enjoy our longest post credit ramble yet.

This week Ben and Hank are chatting about Season 2 of The Wire. We go through the characters, and their various plot lines, chat about what the show is doing and what we like about it. It’s a casual fun time with some tangents.

Also we announce our next Book Club episode which will be on the first book of the Bible: Genesis. Yes, we are going from a James Patterson kids book to The Bible. We got range baby.

It's the inaugural episode of The Salt Circle Book Club and this week the fates have decreed that we read and talk about The Dangerous Days of Daniel X.

If you, like Ben, are wondering why, don't worry Hank opens the episode with an explanation. This is a remarkably bad book, and a series that is much darker than it seems to realize.

Ben and Hank are talking about the hotest game on the market in 2019: Titanfall 2. With the release of Apex Legends and the announcement of no Titanfall 3 happening, fond memories of Titanfall 2 are in the air again which resulted in Ben finally playing it. It was Hank’s game of the year back in 2016 so an episode of the podcast about it seemed appropriate. Also the two of them played the multiplayer together, for Ben’s first time right before recording so that’s what they come in fresh and strong on.

This week Ben and Hank are talking about Hank’s favorite movie from 2018: Boots Riley’s Sorry To Bother You. They start by talking a bit of spoiler-free thoughts and the basic set-up before diving into spoilers and getting to the truly nuts stuff that really makes the movie great. This movie has so much going on but its best stuff is not something we want to spoiler so just be aware.

Hank prepared a list of first issues of comic books for Ben to read and he went through all of them. It’s a diverse spread, a little heavy on Marvel stuff, of comics that came out from 2007 to 2016. This is an episode where we’re both diving fully in and not actually going that deep on any particular thing as we blow through 16 different single issues. They’re all accessible jumping on points so even if you haven’t read any of these comics yourself this episode shouldn’t be impenetrable.

These are the comics we read:

Action Comics 855 (2007)

Adventure Time 1 (2012)

Afterlife with Archie 1 (2013)

Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine 1 of 6 (2010)

Avatar – The Last Airbender – The Promise Part 1 (2012)

Captain America 1 (2013)

Detective Comics 826 (2007)

Edge of Spider-Verse 02 (2014)

Hawkeye 1 (2012)

Joe the Barbarian 1 of 8 (2010)

Journey into Mystery 622 (2011)

Klaus 1 (2015)

She-Hulk 1 (2014)

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl 1 (2015)

The Unbelievable Gwenpool 1 (2016)

Wolvering & The X-Men 1 (2011)

ALSO: We are announcing the start of The Salt Circle Book Club. At the start of every month going forward we are going to choose a book to read and then the last episode of that month will be on that book, so you can read along with us if you like. First up is, The Dangerous Days of Daniel X, a bad book that should lead to a fun episode because it is also fucked up in ways it doesn’t realize.

(2003), Godzilla: Final Wars (2004), Godzilla (2014), and Shin Godzilla (2016); then they run down the Top Eight of the bracket and work their way to their personal champs.
