Salt Circle Podcast

For the 100th episode of Salt Circle Ben and a bunch of friends in the Burning Barrel Discord watched as Hank streamed it live from his VCR playing a pre-special edition version of Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope in all it’s 4:3 glory. It was a fun time.

Right after that Ben and Hank recorded this episode talking about the movie and Star Wars in general.

A bit late, but for Halloween Ben and Hank each picked a film to build this double feature. Ben chose Roger Corman’s The Masque Of the Red Death (1964) starring Vincent Price and Hank picked Little Otik(2000) directed by Jan Švankmajer.

We had some thoughts. Can you guess which one was more cereal friendly?

This week Ben and Hank dive into some more old movies, this time looking at four Akira Kurosawa Samurai films. Seven Samurai(1954), Throne of Blood(1957), Hidden Fortress(1958), and Yojimbo(1961).

Also Hank is tired, so tired.

WARNING THIS IS NOT A NORMAL EPISODE.

Why is this a Labor Day episode 10 days after Labor Day? No reason.

Ben and Hank finally record the commentary track they've been talking about for weeks. Turns our it for the movie Rubber. Rubber is a movie about a killer tire. But it's also incredibly, insufferably meta. It doesn't so much break the fourth wall as it is a movie built around the 4th wall. This week is a journey through the looking glass with the weirdo movie.

They were this close to doing a video commentary. The minor technical issues were solved, and then…

Ben and Hank decided to just talk about Magic the gathering instead of watching a movie. So it goes.

Also, Ben already cracked a beer.

This week Bean and Hank were going to do an Old Movie episodes, but the old movies were too long so that plan was put off. Then they were going to just record a movie commentary but technical issues also made that unfeasible as the movie file took forever to process. So they just turned on the microphones and had a chat. Obviously this lead to a bunch of Magic the Gathering talk because of course.

Thrill as Ben buys a video game while doing the podcast. Get chills as Hank goes through common and uncommons in the sets that are rotating out of standard that Ben should spend wild cards on. Chill as they decide to talk about video games an hour and a half into the podcast!

We’re back! Again! This time it was Hank moving that disrupted the schedule. So it goes.

This week we’re doing a belated Book Club episode and talking about one of Hank’s absolute favorite kid’s books A Barrel of Laughs A Vale of Tearsby Jules Feiffer. Also Daniel X comes up more than you might expect and the end of the episode gets very rambly.

Good Times.

This week in their continuing uh… endeavor to watch old movie Ben hasn’t seen he and Hank are talking about four Alfred Hitchcock movies: Rope (1948), Strangers on a Train (1951), North by Northwest (1959), and Psycho (1960).

Also uh... there might be Midsommar spoilers in there somewhere if you’re worried about that. Hank kinda goes off at some point.
