Salt + Rock

In part 1 of the story of Jonah, we look into how we often avoid answering a call from God, there's always an easy way to run, how God shows he is persistent, and finally, our repentance and returning to God's calling on our lives. We take a dive into whether we think this story is factual or not, and what lead us to believe the way we do. We also discuss the physiology of what was going on before Jonah is swallowed by the fish.

In the conclusion of the Peter series, we see how Peter's faith has now become rock solid, how his ministry works in tandem with Paul's, and how he addresses hard topics within the Church. We discuss the often quoted "Wives submit to your husbands..." scripture, and see how it should REALLY be interpreted.

This week we're kicking off a 3 part series on Simon Peter. We dive into Jesus renaming Simon, Peter, and learn about how our faith can be limited by our vision. We also discuss obedience, discipline, and even more faith. We end this week discussing how the transfiguration is still hard to wrap our heads around 2000 years later.

This week we take a quick break from our biblical character studies, and talk with our friend Eric Puryear (he's not ACTUALLY just in town to be on the podcast.) Since Eric works in/with/around cell phones and the wireless network for a living, we take the opportunity to examine how free internet access in our pockets can be a positive or negative influence on us.

In our conclusion of Aaron, we see two strong qualities of an Ally. Obedience and Support. Support doesn't always mean drawing your sword. It can be having someone's back or showing empathy. We also see how Aaron sets up his lineage to continue as priests and high priests of the tabernacle. Even though Aaron has to face consequences of the times he is disobedient, he and his future generations are called and blessed by God for how often he was obedient.

In our conclusion of the Barnabus-Paul-Timothy Ally discussion, we take a deeper dive into Paul's Protégé, Timothy. We are joined by Rich Gorecki, author of www.god-buddies.com as we discuss the parallels between Paul & Timothy, why Timothy was circumcised when Titus was not, the importance of having a faithful mother, and the idea that we should all have these 3 relationships: a mentor, a peer, and someone to pass on our legacy to.

We pick back up with Paul back in Tarsus. Things we learn: Paul's (new) reputation precedes him, (more) anger, church planting, Paul's new haircut & diet, Paul's roots in the Pentecostal church, shipwrecks and assassination attempts, the length of time spent while on mission journeys 2 & 3, and how being from Roman descent affected the end of Paul's life. In the final chapters of Paul's life, we also see a parallel to Jesus' life, and how an earthly citizenship compares to becoming a citizen of heaven.
