Nina Burleigh is a best-selling author, journalist and lecturer. Her latest book, “VIRUS: Vaccinations, the CDC and the Hijacking of America's Response to the Pandemic”, is a brisk, real-life thriller that delves into the malfeasance behind the American pandemic chaos, and the triumph of science in an era of conspiracy theories and contempt for experts.
Burleigh got her start covering the Illinois Statehouse in Springfield, where the governorship often included a fitting for the prison stripes. She has reported from almost every state in the Continental U.S., written hundreds of works of journalism, essays and book reviews, on a wide array of topics including culture, politics, gender issues, science, and the environment. Two of her magazine articles were made into dramatic productions.

Nic Carter is General Partner at Castle Island Ventures, a public blockchain-focused venture fund based in Cambridge, Mass. He is also the co-founder of Coin Metrics, a blockchain analytics startup.
Today, Bitcoin consumes as much energy as a small country. This certainly sounds alarming — but the reality is way more complicated. Nic Carter joins us today to discuss several common misconceptions surrounding the Bitcoin sustainability debate, and ultimately argues that it’s up to the crypto community to acknowledge and address environmental concerns, work in good faith to reduce Bitcoin’s carbon footprint, and ultimately demonstrate that the societal value that Bitcoin provides is worth the resources needed to sustain it.

Jack Mallers is the Founder and CEO of Zap, which created Strike, a bitcoin investment and payments company that transacts over the Lightning Network. Jack is known as one of the earliest Lightning Network developers, and recently has been providing market insights to help build El Salvador’s modern financial infrastructure using Bitcoin technology. Holding bitcoin provides a way to protect developing economies from potential shocks of fiat currency inflation,”
Strike is a mobile payments app that allows users to send and receive money anywhere, instantly, for free. Strike is built on top of the Bitcoin network – the largest global, interoperable, and open payments standard. Strike believes that open payment networks enable universal participation in the financial system, ushering in a new digital economy with truly borderless money transfers. Strike leverages Bitcoin’s open payment network to offer users the first global peer-to-peer payments app and a novel bitcoin-native financial experience.

Jason Crabtree is the CEO of QOMPLX, a global leader in commercial cybersecurity and risk analytics. It is QOMPLX’s mission to reimagine the complexity of the modern data-driven economy for our clients. As the CEO of QOMPLX, Mr. Crabtree is responsible for the overall vision and long term direction of the company, in addition to overseeing all aspects of company operations.
While “complexity” is often viewed as a negative attribute, the most powerful things in life are complex. Planet Earth. Global enterprises. Human beings. Several years ago, Stephen Hawking said “the next century [21st] will be the century of complexity." Rick Nason of Dalhousie University’s Rowe School of Business explains in his book It’s Not Complicated: The Art and Science of Complexity in Business, “if you manage complex things as if they are merely complicated, you’re likely to be setting up your company for failure." Eliminating complexity would make no sense. Embracing complexity and harnessing it is the path to success.

Bill Bratton is the 38th & 42nd Police Commissioner of New York City. During a 46-year career in law enforcement, he instituted progressive change while leading six police departments, including seven years as Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department and two nonconsecutive terms as the Police Commissioner of the City of New York. He is the only person ever to lead the police agencies of America’s two largest cities. As the Executive Chairman of Risk Advisory, Commissioner Bratton advises clients on risk identification, prevention, and response. Teneo addresses five key areas: cyber risk management, counterterrorism, crisis anticipation, critical infrastructure, and health crisis advisory services.
The Profession is both a searching examination of the path of policing over the past fifty years, for good and also for ill, and a master class in transformative leadership. Bill Bratton was never brought into a police department to maintain the status quo; wherever he went–from Boston in the ’80s to the New York Police Department in the ’90s to Los Angeles after the beating of Rodney King to New York again in the era of unchecked stop-and-frisk–root-and-branch reinvention was the order of the day and he met the challenge. There are few other positions on Earth in which life-and-death stakes combine with intense public scrutiny and turbulent political crosswinds as they do for the police chief of a major American city, even more so after counterterrorism entered the mix in the twenty-first century. Now more than ever, when the role of the police in society is under a microscope like never before, Bill Bratton’s authority on the subject of improving law enforcement is profoundly useful. A riveting combination of cop stories and community involvement, The Profession presents not only a fascinating and colorful life at the heights of law-enforcement leadership, but the vision for the future of American policing that we sorely need.

Marc Polymeropoulos is a former CIA Senior Intelligence Service Officer and Author of Clarity in Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the CIA. Marc retired in June 2019 from the Senior Intelligence Service ranks at the CIA after a 26 year career in operational headquarters and field management assignments covering the Middle East, Europe, Eurasia, and Counter Terrorism.
Marc Polymeropoulos has had to live with the consequences of decisions made under the most high-stress circumstances you can imagine as a senior intelligence officer in the CIA, retiring from his 26 years of service as one of the CIA’s most decorated field officers.
Though your crisis situations may not entail international counter terrorism as Marc’s did, in our age of social media and a 24-hour news cycle, the consequences of mishandling a crisis can escalate quickly, leaving irreparable damage to a company’s reputation and bottom line in its wake.
In Clarity in Crisis, Marc shares how true leaders need to lead in and through times of crisis and thrive under conditions of ambiguity, rather than message their way out or duck from hard decisions. Far from mere theory, Marc outlines the unique and specific mindset and strategies he himself practiced and honed throughout his remarkable career.
