  • Part 1: Narendra Modi: Villain or Hero?

    There was deep

suspicion that Narendra Modi's government assassinated a Canadian linked to the
Sheikh separatist movement - was it Modi's government? And if it was - was it
warranted? How does that compare to American drone strikes?

Beyond the assassination attempt, India is set to have

elections this year - and they just passed a gender quota law for Parliament.
What does the future hold for the world's most populous country?

Rajiv Lall, Former managing director of IDFC Bank, joins us to give his expert analysis and predictions.

This is Part 1 of 2. In the next episode we will be discussing leadership.

  • Women and the US Midterms Elections, Part 1: Gwenn Burud for State Senate in TEXAS

Texas, once a solidly red state, is now venturing into purple territory. With Roe v. Wade now overturned, the composition of state legislatures has become critically important to combatting draconian laws and saving women's lives. Yet the Texas State Senate is majority male with an average age of 62 and 18 Republicans versus 13 democrats. Women running for office are looking to change that makeup - and one of those is Gwenn Burud, a public school teacher running to replace Kelly Hancock, an anti-choice, anti immigration stalwart of the conservative party.

Burud joins us in this episode of Samanthropolitics to talk about the issues she cares about, the sad state of the education system in Texas, and why she decided to run for office for a second time to take down Hancock.

  • Burning Hijabs in Iran

The death of Mahsa Amini in police custody has spurred the biggest protests in Iran since the 1970s. Women and men are storming the streets, publicly burning their hijabs and calling for an end to the Iranian regime. The regime has responded with brutality. Where did this come from, what is the latest,  and what will happen next?

Presenter of BBC’s “Out of the Shadows,” a documentary about Iran and Israel, Suzanne Kianpour, joined Samanthropolitics LIVE from the Middle East to break it all down for us.

  • A Balkan Crisis Looms

The Balkan wars were brought to a shaky close in 1995 with the Dayton accords.Only 4 years later, a US led NATO force bombed Serbia in 1999 in response to Serb aggression against Kosovo. Since then a tenuous peace existed in the region - until now. Threats of invasion, secession, and separation have only become louder with Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. What will happen next?

Balkan expert Professor Tanya Domi joins Samanthropolitics to break it all down.

  • America's War on Women

It's a worst case nightmare scenario for women in America - Roe v. Wade has been overturned.

Since then, there have been a plethora of states that have outlawed abortion even in cases of rape, incest, and danger to the life of the mother. In some states, the "trigger" laws enacted date back to the 1800's, creating a dystopian future from an archaic past. Lawsuits are being filed against some of these, with a dizzingly difficult path to follow of what is going on, what is permitted, what isn't, and beyond.

What is the effect that we are seeing since the overturn of Roe? What are the differences between states?

What has this done to the legal system? What are the other shocking supreme court decisions that have come out, and what are those implications? What exactly does Biden's executive order do? Besides voting, what else can people do?    Stephanie Schmid, former US Congressional candidate and former US Foreign Policy Counsel for the Center for Reproductive Rights & Molly Karlin, US federal public defender, Arizona, join us to discuss.
