The San Jose Sharks' rebuild is over!
Hate it or love it, this is GM Mike Grier's vision for a winning Sharks team: He signed Jacob Trouba and Mason Marchment to big deals, and traded for Darnell Nurse.
NHL Network's Jason Demers shares his thoughts -- also, read and watch more of Demers's thoughts on the San Jose Sharks at The Bite:
https://substack.com/@thebitejd
https://www.youtube.com/@jasondemers55
Demers and the San Jose Hockey Now team like what Grier is doing, though we all recognize the risks.
We also say good-bye to Mario Ferraro and discuss Ivar Stenberg's impressive showing so far at development camp.
(00:00:00) Introduction: The Rebuild Is Over

Should the San Jose Sharks trade for Zach Werenski?
Jason Demers shares his thoughts on what the cost might be.
Demers also talks about potential trade or free agent targets to improve the San Jose Sharks’ defense.
What will unlock Michael Kesselring’s potential? Should the Sharks hand Eric Pohlkamp a spot?
Demers also shares his thoughts about free agents Rasmus Andersson, Mason Marchment, Jamie Oleksiak, and Ryan Shea? How about trading for Morgan Rielly or Mason Lohrei?
Who are the San Jose Sharks’ top-five untouchables in a potential Werenski deal?
Dan Boyle and Demers also commented on Keaton Verhoeff and Ryan Lin’s tape. Demers is also full of praise for Ivar Stenberg.

The San Jose Sharks just blew up draft week!
Mid-recording — right as we were rolling on our pre-draft special — Elliotte Friedman dropped the bomb: Sharks GM Mike Grier had traded William Eklund to the Ottawa Senators. So you get our genuine, unscripted, live on-air NHL reaction to the chaos as it broke!
The full return: The San Jose Sharks sent Eklund, Kasper Halttunen, and the rights to Brandon Svoboda to Ottawa for the ninth-overall pick in the 2026 Draft — a pick the Sens had just landed from Florida in the Brady Tkachuk deal. That leaves the Sharks holding the No. 2, 9, and 27 picks heading into Friday's draft
But before all that craziness, an exclusive: Our sit-down with Laila Edwards, the first draft pick in PWHL San Jose history, taken fourth-overall out of Wisconsin. A 2026 Olympic gold medalist and the highest-drafted black woman in PWHL Draft history — she gets into being a role model, her mom's "fire" fashion sense, her planned move to the Bay, some of her biggest personal influences, and what she brings to an expansion roster. She also jokes about moving into Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith's mansion.
Then co-host Dan Boyle re-joins us from vacation with his insights on Chase Reid, Carson Carels, and the big decision for the Sharks at No. 2 — and the domino it sets off right behind them.
To close — lost in the chaos but recorded the day before the Eklund trade — Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects joins us for the definitive prediction on the San Jose Sharks' pick at No. 2...Ivar Stenberg, the Frölunda winger projected as a future 80-90 point NHL forward.

Post-Combine, Scott Wheeler jumps on to talk about the 2026 Draft!
Joshua Ravensbergen also comes on to talk about Prince George Cougars teammate and potential San Jose Sharks No. 2 pick Carson Carels!
The San Jose Hockey Now Podcast is sponsored by Bring Hockey Back and Bladetech Hockey!
(00:04:12) Scott Wheeler shares why he has a “hunch” that the Sharks will pick Ivar Stenberg at No. 2.
(00:10:39) How does Wheeler look back at Michael Misa vs. Anton Frondell last year?
If the Sharks select the Swedish winger, Wheeler explains why he wouldn’t be so quick to trade from the Sharks’ excess of forwards for defensive help.
(00:19:13) If the Sharks pick a defenseman, have Chase Reid and Carels set themselves apart from the rest of the field?
Wheeler has been arguing with fellow Athletic draft guru Corey Pronman on their podcast about the potential value of Reid versus Stenberg. How does Reid rank amongst recent top blueline picks like Artyom Levshunov, David Jiricek, Simon Nemec, Zayne Parekh, Zeev Buium, and Sam Dickinson?
(00:26:44) What are strong San Jose Sharks’ options at No. 20? Wheeler selected defenseman Tommy Bleyl to San Jose in his most recent mock.
What are Sharks’ draft trends under GM Mike Grier? Which Sharks prospects are most likely to help the big club next year?
(00:44:13) Why do Keegan, Sheng, and Zubair still think that the San Jose Sharks will pick a defenseman at No. 2?
What about Joe Pavelski interviewing for the Toronto Maple Leafs head coach job?
Sheng talks more about his brutal AirBNB story.
(01:30:11) Who was the best prospect to chat with at the Combine?
(01:34:50) What can the San Jose Sharks learn from Stanley Cup finalists Vegas Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes?
Some free agents Mario Ferraro, Vincent Desharnais, Ryan Reaves, and Philipp Kurashev talk.
Should the Sharks trade for Darnell Nurse, Morgan Rielly, Marcus Pettersson, or Filip Hronek?
(02:17:30) Would you do this Hronek trade?
PWHL San Jose has signed its first players.
(02:31:45) Finally, top San Jose Sharks prospect and 2025-26 WHL Goaltender of the Year, Joshua Ravensbergen!
Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
(00:01:39) Director of development Todd Marchant talks about Eric Pohlkamp, Joshua Ravensbergen, Leo Sahlin Wallenius, Haoxi (Simon) Wang, Carson Wetsch
Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Who does Craig Button think that the San Jose Sharks should pick at No. 2?
(00:04:32) Button is on the hot seat from the first question!
If the Toronto Maple Leafs pass on Gavin McKenna, would Button take Chase Reid over McKenna?
Is Reid his clear-cut top defenseman of the 2026 Draft over Keaton Verhoeff, Carson Carels, Alberts Smits, and Daxon Rudolph?
Is Ivar Stenberg vs. Caleb Malhotra a discussion? Could Malhotra make sense for the Sharks?
(00:27:44) Why is Reid so exciting to Button?
Would Button trade the No. 2 pick for a star NHL defenseman?
Button shares a possible target for the San Jose Sharks’ No. 19 or 20 pick.
What did Button think of Michael Misa and Sam Dickinson’s rookie seasons? Why is he high on Leo Sahlin Wallenius and Eric Pohlkamp?
(00:46:09) Dan Boyle and Zubair Jeewanjee jump on to talk about the playoffs! Why has Boyle been so impressed by Quinn Hughes?
What did he think about the Norris Trophy voting? Boyle has no issue with Evan Bouchard getting passed up. He also shares his thoughts about potential UFA target Darren Raddysh.
(01:11:27) Would we trade the No. 2 pick for Werenski?
(01:32:22) We chat about the Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews to the San Jose Sharks speculation.
(01:38:35) Our thoughts on how Toronto Sun reporter Steve Simmons approached the John Chayka press conference. Sheng Peng also recalls making Macklin Celebrini walk off in a post-game press conference this season and asking David Quinn about his job status three years ago.
Who are realistic free agency or trade targets on defense for the San Jose Sharks this off-season? Keegan McNally wrote a great article about it recently!
(02:27:04) Peng gives a more concise explanation for why he didn’t vote Celebrini No. 1 for the Hart Trophy.
(02:39:01) Finally, who do we think the Sharks should pick at No. 2?
Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
We say goodbye to a special San Jose Sharks season!
But before that, Sharks legend Dan Boyle remembers the time that he walked Brent Burns.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JV3AWKsTK7U
Also, Zubair shares a great “hockey” movie that he watched recently.
So where did Sheng vote Macklin Celebrini for the Hart Trophy? GM Mike Grier, in his exit interview, gave a spirited case.
Will Celebrini be the next captain of the San Jose Sharks?
Recent history gives a good idea of what Celebrini’s extension should look like.
What did Dan think of Luca Cagnoni’s recent NHL call-up?
Would you trade Michael Misa for Zach Werenski? Dan and Keegan have a perhaps surprising answer.
We discuss what the San Jose Sharks blueline might look like next year.
What about head coach Ryan Warsofsky? What did we think about his performance this season?
What does Dan think of Eric Pohlkamp?
We get into a thoughtful conversation about Shakir Mukhamadullin: What will it take to get him to the next level?
Finally, we each give thanks for all your support this season!

Ohheytravis: Is Warsofsky on the hot seat?
Tim Graveline: If the San Jose Sharks win the Draft lottery, should they take a BPA forward like Gavin McKenna or trade back for a defenseman prospect?
For Zubair, what’s a song or maybe an album that best represents this sharks season? What song/album would you hope would represent the sharks next season?
Zeke: Which San Jose Barracuda forwards have a legit shot at a playing role in the NHL?
Rphillips: Is our organization’s ability to develop defensemen a concern?
(22:39) Bob Horenstein: What does the defense look like next year? Which UFA’s do the Sharks bring back?

What player type do the Sharks need next year?
Do you see Michael Misa or Sam Dickinson starting next season in the AHL?
(40:23) Stephanie K: How much did Doug Wilson Jr.’s drafting hurt the San Jose Sharks’ current team?
Downriver: What skills do Shakir Mukhamadullin, Dickinson, and Luca Cagnoni need to develop if they’re going to be regulars at the NHL level? Do you see Pohlkamp as NHL-ready for a contending team?
Finny Damphousse: What are you all sipping on? Alcohol or non-alcoholic.
Giant Shark Tooth Necklace: Is there a specific player you would have liked to have seen the Sharks trade for at the Deadline to help with the playoff push? If so, what would your “take or leave it” trade offer have been for that player, if there was a bidding war? Or do you think Grier made the right call to wait until the off-season to make any major moves?
James R: For Keegan, realizing there is no Matthew Schaefer in this Draft, are there a defenseman in this year’s class that could reasonably step into an NHL lineup next season and be a legit everyday player?
(56:33) How comfortable do you feel running back the same goaltending tandem next season?
Yetis: The organization has a glut of forwards both on the NHL roster and in the AHL in Musty, Bystedt, and Kasper Halttunen. Who is most likely to go?
Rob S: Does Mukhamadullin want to return to the Sharks?
Can Mario Ferraro develop his puck-moving beyond what it is now?
Sven_: Would you rather fight 100 duck-sized Dan Boyles or 1 Dan Boyle-sized duck?
James Murphy: Shouldn’t the Sharks have called up Luca Cagnoni earlier to run the power play?
Spon: Are the Sharks pushing Dickinson (and possibly Pohlkamp when he arrives) too hard and too soon?
Megabite: Any chance Nedeljkovic is not going to return?
BiscuitBoy: Is Yaroslav Askarov’s glove hand fixable? Will Will Smith learn to be stronger with the puck?
Stefan Schwartz: What do you think about the D by committee route for the Sharks, since true No. 1 D are hard to come by? Which middle-pairing defensemen would fit the Sharks?
FaultySynapse: What will the San Jose Sharks’ depth chart look like if they pull the trigger on a No. 1 defenseman in a trade?
(1:14:25) Just Steve: How do you think the Sharks have handled Mukhamadullin and other prospects?
Michael K.: What are the Sharks’ options on defense next year if Pohlkamp or Cagnoni aren’t ready? And they strike out on defense?
Cole Seavey: Should the Sharks be in the chase for Auston Matthews?
Jigglz: Do you ever see yourselves doing a live, in-person recording of the Pod with an audience?
(1:27:36) Sarge: The Sharks have the No. 9 pick of the 2026 Draft. The top-4 defensemen are gone, leaving Daxon Rudolph on the board. Should San Jose take Rudolph or a forward like Oscar Hemming? How angry will Sharks fans be if they pick the non-defenseman?
NotAlexKorolyuk: Which stars would you like to see on the Sharks over the next three years, be the most fun?
Ken Meehan: What three moves should the Sharks make this summer to “guarantee” a playoff spot next year?
Kyle Johnson: As a non-season ticket holder, how do you go about getting prospects scrimmage tickets? I want to get them before they sell out.
Chris Geer: If the Sharks don’t win the Lottery, should they package a good prospect like a Bystedt etc. with their pick to go up higher in the Draft?
Radioheadliner (the other James R.): What would Kevin Woodley or Thomas Speer say about Askarov’s ability to stop shots up high or track the puck through screens? Keegan, didn’t you tweet way back when that you were worried about his hands?
Fin Coe: If Warsofsky keeps his job, are there any Assistant Coaches that could be in the hot seat?
Keegan, will you be repping your Sharks fandom at your wedding?
Sheng, are there any colleagues of yours whose work you think we should follow?
Zubair, what sticks do you rock?
Joe E: What’s going on with the San Jose Barracuda? They’re on a nine-game losing streak. Also, do we trust them to get the most out of Pohlkamp or Leo Sahlin Wallenius?
Ricky LaFleur: In Mike Grier’s opening presser, his mission statement was that we were going to be hard, heavy, and difficult to play against—basically the complete antithesis of what we are. Why do you think he’s deviated from his original blueprint?
Gary To: For top power play quarterback next year, would you prefer a youngster like Dickinson or Cagnoni to QB the PP or should they re-explore the five-forward PP? Or acquire a bridge PP1 QB?
Kevin: Do we see the Sharks emptying the war chest for one star difference-maker on defense or multiple solid d-men? What will a Michael Kesselring cost?
Jon Swenson: Could the San Jose Sharks ask Tyler Toffoli to waive his NTC this off-season?
