  • EP. 15: 2 Lessons on How I Became My Most Authentic Self That Have Nothing To Do With Cancer

The stories we tell ourselves have the power to shape our lives. But not every story we tell ourselves, about ourselves, is true. So where did they come from? And why are we still listening to them?

I was told that I was not a good gardener and that I can’t be an entrepreneur. The funny thing is, I don’t remember who told me this! Maybe I killed a plant, or I seemed happy being an employee, but in my heart, I didn’t feel like these things were true. So I explored these thoughts by doing the opposite of what they told me.

In this week’s episode, we’re talking about 2 lessons on how I became my most authentic self that have nothing to do with cancer. These stories that I was telling myself, they weren’t true. I knew they weren’t true, but it can be so hard to get over that jump in your mind and actually do something about those little lies. But I did, and I want to teach all of you how I did it so that you can challenge these untrue stories and become your most authentic selves.

  • EP. 14: How to Work Through Your Suppressed Feelings as a Cancer Survivor

I have a client who reached out to me because she knew she wasn’t feeling her feelings. At first, she felt distant from her feelings, like she couldn’t access them. Then they all bubbled up out of nowhere!

This client came to me because she wanted help processing these feelings in a healthy way. I’m glad she came to me. I have tons of experience working through repressed emotions, both as a coach and from my own experience. I once dissolved into tears at a pool party. It happens!

In this week’s episode, we’re talking about how to work through your repressed feelings as a cancer survivor. If you’re feeling distant from yourself, if you’re having a hard time managing your emotions, or if you feel like you’re a little bit behind where you should be, this episode is for you. Cancer diagnosis and treatment are traumatic, both physically and emotionally. Your doctors are handling the physical healing; let’s work on the emotional healing together.

  • EP. 13: Body Neutrality: How to Make Peace with Your Body After Your Cancer Diagnosis

Body neutrality is a concept I bring up to my cancer recovery clients so that they have some peace during such a difficult time. Loving our bodies - as Latinas, as women, and as cancer survivors - is a hard thing to wrap our heads around. Too much has happened, and some days we feel too battered and bruised to really align with the word “love.”

But not loving our bodies doesn’t mean we have to hate our bodies. I don’t hate my body! My body fought for me, it nursed five kids for me, it ran a marathon with me. So when I discovered body neutrality, I finally felt like I had found the word I’ve been looking for all this time.

In this week’s episode, we’re talking about body neutrality and how to make peace with your body after your cancer diagnosis. If you’ve recently been diagnosed with cancer or you’re going through treatment, you might feel like this time of your life is too tumultuous to use the L word. So I’d like to offer you the concept of body neutrality and how it can bring you peace during such a rough time in your life.

Tune in to hear what body neutrality can look like in practice for cancer survivors and how it’s helped me heal decades of trauma from impossible beauty standards.

  • EP. 12: How to Reduce Overwhelm and Get Your Momentum Back as a Cancer Survivor

I am used to living a fast-paced lifestyle. Every single thing on my to-do list was getting done, no matter what. And cancer ruined that for me, in more ways than one. Besides the obvious, cancer and chemo treatment were overwhelming. They slowed me down and took away the natural rhythm of my life that I was so accustomed to.

I needed to get back to my life. I needed to feel like myself again, and not like I’m just a patient. So I went on a mission to address the overwhelm, and all these years later, I can share with you what worked and what didn’t.

In this week’s episode, we’re talking about how to reduce overwhelm and get your momentum back as a cancer survivor. Being chronically overwhelmed is what is keeping you exhausted. So if you want to get your life back, you’re going to have to make some changes to work with your treatment, rather than against it.

Tune in and grab your notebooks because we have a lot to cover this week!

  • EP. 11: How to Protect Your Peace During Treatment and Survivorship

Setting boundaries was the best thing I could do for myself during my cancer treatment. Setting boundaries for me meant that I didn’t overextend myself during treatment. It allowed me to have the peace of mind I needed to get better.

But, for Latina women, trying to set boundaries with their families can sound like, “I hate you, and your love, and all your new treatment ideas.” Which is not what we’re doing AT ALL. So, how do we create a peaceful environment for healing while also managing our family's expectations?

In this week’s episode, we’re talking about how to protect your peace during treatment and survivorship. You need to protect your peace during this time, and I am giving you permission to do so. I have a ton of resources and tips for you in this week’s episode, so if you’ve felt like this was a daunting task on top of everything else, I’ve got your back.

Tune in to hear how I’ve protected my peace and set boundaries with my loved ones during my cancer recovery treatment and beyond.

  • EP. 10:  Freedom Flights, When to Defer to Doctors, and Self-Advocacy

When was the last time you talked back to a doctor? I KNOW! It sounds almost sacrilegious to question a doctor. But what if I told you that you had to do it to get the best possible treatment?

As a cancer survivor and a coach, I see so many other cancer survivors bite their tongues about wanting a second opinion or wanting to eat their cultural foods. Nevertheless, it’s time to start honoring your needs and voicing your opinions. Because if you don’t advocate for yourself, no one will.

In this week’s episode, we’re talking about freedom flights, when to defer to doctors, and self-advocacy. There’s a high correlation between the Cuban-American experience and the urge to defer to your doctors. But ignoring your gut feelings can cost you your health or, in the worst-case scenario, your time with your loved ones.

Tune in to hear why I regret not asking for a second opinion during my dad’s cancer treatment and how I advocate for myself and my clients.

  • EP. 9: How I Live a Life of Service Without Self-Sacrificing (Again)

What does a life of service look like to you? For many of us in the Latina community, it means giving up everything we are for the good of others. That can mean burning yourself out, ignoring your health, and giving up your personal dreams to take care of others. We were taught that that is a very noble way of living. But in actuality, it’s causing us unnecessary harm.

You don’t need to choose between yourself and a life of service. So many of us are called to serve, whether for our families, our countries, or others. But that doesn’t mean you have to harm yourself to do a good job at serving. Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it's that you cannot pour from an empty cup.

In this week’s episode, we’re talking about how I live a life of service without self-sacrificing (again). I say again because I did self-sacrifice, a lot. To the point where I developed stage 3 breast cancer and didn’t even know it. No one would ask me to give up my health in order to serve my family or my country, but I did anyway, and I won’t be doing it again.

Tune in for a deep dive into my career in service and how I honor my calling to service without self-sacrifice. Again.

  • EP. 8: The Three Pillars of Self-Care I Refuse to Live Without

“A depleted woman cannot pour from an empty cup.”

That is the lesson I had to learn during my cancer treatment. Even before I got my cancer diagnosis, I was depleted, and I didn’t have anything left to give. I needed to learn how to depend on myself. And those are two totally different things.

I knew that I could run myself ragged taking care of everyone else. All the chores could be done, and everyone else could be taken care of - but not me. I was not taken care of because I wasn’t caring for myself. That’s not depending on myself, that was sacrificing myself, and I cannot afford to do it again. So I won’t!

In this week’s episode, we’re talking about the three pillars of self-care I refuse to live without. As a cancer survivor who has recently graduated from treatment (whoohoo!), I’ve been thinking more and more about my health. I neglected my health to be a good Cuban daughter and take care of my family, and that was detrimental to both me and everyone else around me. Because of that, I now have three pillars of self-care that not only keep me healthy, but keep me sane.

Tune in to hear what my three pillars of health are, and why real self-care is so important for the Latina community!

  • EP. 7: How to Rediscover Your Identity After Your Cancer Diagnosis

Identity work is a huge part of my coaching program because of how much it affects my clients. The hospital typically handles all aspects of your physical treatment. But there’s no treatment plan for how cancer affects your inner self. There definitely wasn’t one when I was diagnosed! Which is why I made one for survivors who need it and perfected it over the last few years.

Cancer doesn’t care if you’re the strong one or the one everyone depends on. Cancer didn’t care that I was neglecting myself so that I could be a good Cuban daughter. But cancer did become the catalyst I needed to make healthier changes in my life and reconnect with who I’ve always been.

In this week’s episode, we’re talking about how to rediscover your identity after your cancer diagnosis. This episode is full of journal prompts, so bust out your favorite notebook and find a cute pen because we are digging deep! Tune in to hear how to identify the identities we held on to before cancer diagnosis and discover who we want to be now.

And don’t worry! We’re going to work through this together.

  • EP. 6: 5 Life Lessons  That Helped Me Navigate Cancer Treatment and Protect My Mental Health

I learned so many life lessons during my cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. It was as if my way of life was split in two parts, before my diagnosis and every moment after. I had to adapt, and to adapt, I had to learn and change.

Which wasn’t easy for me. I was used to being the strong one, the one who never needed any help, the one who could actually put everything on my plate down to help someone else with their thing. Cancer took that from me, and because of that, I felt a new kind of love from my community.

In this week’s episode, we’re talking about the 5 lessons that helped me navigate cancer treatment and protect my mental health. Cancer doesn’t come with a little pamphlet that tells you how everything in your life is going to change and what to do about it. They have those for medical treatments, but not for how the life you’re used to changing forever. That’s why I’m going to cut out the guessing game for you and teach you what I learned, so that maybe it will help you during and after treatment.

Tune in to hear what changed in my life, what was added to my routine, and what got better once I worked through a few stubborn habits.
