We see injustice everywhere around us. We experience injustice frequently. How should we respond in the face of such inequity and wrong? In Psalm 137 the people of Israel mourn the situation that led them to be exiled in Babylon, and they pray that God would make things right.

When we feel alone--and we have all been there--it is hard to pray. But, there is no time that it is more important to pray. There is nothing that will help us out more than prayer. Psalm 22 is David's prayerful response to his feelings that God has hidden himself from David.

Prayers of lament are often neglected, and can even seem impious. However, the book of Psalms is full of them. What is lament? Is it different than complaining? Are there lines we can't cross? All these questions will be answered in today's episode as we read David's prayer in Psalm 142.

Sometimes we find ourselves in desperate places and we don't know how to pray, or even if we can pray. David models for us how we should pray in such times in Psalm 91.

Why is it so important to thank God? To learn the importance of how to thank God and to see a what such a prayer of thanksgiving looks like we will look at Psalm 136.

Perhaps the most confusing part of the disciple's prayer is the end, "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." What is Jesus teaching us to ask? We also will read Psalm 1.

Jesus teaches us to pray for repentance. What does repentance involve, and what is the goal? Why, instead of praying, "forgive our sins," does Jesus teach us to pray, "forgive us our debts as we have forgiven our debtors"? We will be reading David's great prayer of repentance in Psalm 51.

Is is presumptuous to ask God for our needs in prayer? Jesus teaches us to come to our Heavenly Father and ask, "Give us today our daily bread." We will also read Psalm 78.

What does Jesus mean when he teaches us to pray "Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven." We also will read Psalm 145. 

This week we will study the prayer Jesus teaches his disciples to pray. Today we look at the first part of the prayer, "Our Father, who is in Heaven, hallowed be your name. We will also look at David's prayer in Psalm 9. I also want to encourage you to read the Disciple's prayer in Matthew 6 or Luke 11.
