Santa Mira After Dark: Horror Movie Reviews

We gather in Santa Mira After Dark to discuss our favorite Christmas film of 2021, The Green Knight.

It's a lot to unpack but we try our best. We talk about how great David Lowery is at creating long beautiful shots, the origins of the Sir Gawain and The Green Knight story, a lot of the symbolism in this movie, and give our thoughts on if Gawain got his head cut off or not.

We gather in Santa Mira After Dark to discuss the 2019 DCEU film Shazam!

Is Shazam the most grounded DCEU film? Is it the best DC Christmas film? (Suck it Batman Returns)... We also discuss the career of David Sandberg, our bias toward DC, and question if Batman and Superman are getting paid for having their action figures in stores.

Santa Mira After Dark is back to discuss the new Edgar Wright film and one of 2021's best films, Last Night In Soho!

How does is compare to Edgar Wright's other films? Does the plot twist at the end work? Is Anya Taylor-Joy the best working actress? And what are some "hints" that we picked up after seeing this film for a second time? Listen to the episode to find out!

The Santa Mira After Dark gang is back to discuss another horror film. This time it's Night of the Demons!

Meatball talks about one of her favorite horror films ever. What's with the brother talking inappropriately about his sister? Why is everyone getting with everyone? Why would they even trust Angela in the first place? And whatever happened to "lady's first" Rodger!?

*In the episode we mentioned that we won’t be doing an episode next week, but we chanted the plans and we will be talking about Last Night in Soho next week*

The Santa Mira After Dark gang is back (in Santa Mira) to discuss the 1982 cult classic Halloween 3! Where Michael Myers is out and an evil toy maker who wants to sacrifice thousands of children using Halloween masks is in.

Where is Michael Myers? And where are the witches? Why is Tom Atkins sucking nips? Why is this terrible doctor bagging every girl in town? We talk about it all in this episode!

The Attempted Topics gang is back to rank the Friday the 13th franchise!

How did this franchise even get off the ground with such a terrible first movie? And why are there so many movies without the main antagonist? Does the franchise get better the more over the top it gets? And how exactly will hockey be outlawed by 2024? And is there a rebrand coming for Attempted Topics? *wink*

The Attempted Topics gang discusses the new Halloween Kills.

This is the first time we've immediately gotten back from the theater and sat down to record our immediate thoughts. Does Halloween Kills live up to it's name? Is Michael Myers the king of slashers? Do all these returning characters work? Where does this stand in comparison to the rest of the franchise? And can we crown Andi Matichak as a scream queen yet?

The gang is back to discuss James Wan's new film Malignant!

They break down the bizarre switch in tones throughout the film. Can a film that goes from horror to thriller to action work? They also give their thoughts on the bizarre "twist" in the final act and that epic jail scene at the end. And they talk about how crazy it is for James Wan to go from blockbuster to horror so easily.

Happy October! The Attempted Topics gang is back to discuss the 2013 Rob Zombie film The Lords of Salem.

Jeremy talks about the things he'd do for Rob Zombie to make another film like this and Halloween II (including give birth to the anti christ in front of a group of witches), Steven talks about how the interior of Heidi's apartment cannot fit given the size of it on the outside (House of Leaves situation?). The squad gets a mysterious vinyl in the mail similar to Heidi in the film, they rant about Tubi's ad placement, they talk about the differences in The Lords of Salem book compared to the movie, and they drool over Rob Zombie's first 5 films.
