A Special Episode of Saturday Morning Coffee Hosted by John Bonsignor and Greg Hembree:
Special Guest John Bonsignor and State Senator Greg Hembree, take the host chairs this week for a very special edition of Saturday Morning Coffee, and along with Producer Glenn Dye discuss the events and political insights of the day. John and Greg share a little bit about their backgrounds and some of Senator Hembree’s memorable political races from elections past.
Horry County Schools and COVID-19:
Greg and John discuss the current status of Horry County Schools, and the recent plan to install plexiglass enclosures around student desks in our schools. Senator Hembree discusses the current financial outlook and “per pupil” funding levels for South Carolina schools, and whether our education “outputs” are matching up with our education “inputs.” Greg discusses his recent efforts to pass educational reform legislation in the S.C. General Assembly, and how the reform bills that had been passed in the Senate and House were stalled by the COVID-19 pandemic, and died at the end of the last legislative session.
The November 2020 Elections:
Greg and John discuss the results of the recent elections and the “blue wave” that was expected to arise in the Charleston area, but that failed to materialize, and the incredible money that was raised to challenge Senator Lindsey Graham in this cycle. Numerous Republican Senators that were “targeted” by Democrats were successfully defended, and significantly, Nancy Mace beat Joe Cunningham. Significantly, Vincent Sheheen and Glen Reese, both long-serving Democratic Senators, were defeated but relative political newcomers. In total, Republicans in the Senate flipped three seats, which is “huge” because Democrats in the Senate can now no longer block Republican legislation with the filibuster. (Greg notes that there is now no reason for the Senate not to pass a “conservative” budget because the Republicans are now “firmly” in control of the chamber.)
Greg discuss the demands of juggling and law practice and serving in the Senate, and running the occasional triathlon.
The recent press conference with the President’s legal team and other litigation stemming from the November 3rd election is discussed, as well as some startling allegations that have been made about the vote counting software that has been used to count millions of ballots in this Presidential election.
Listener Larry Biddle calls the show to discuss his thoughts on education, and to share some thoughts about the ground-breaking “Number 1 Initiative” that was launched at Conway High School in January 1984.
Greg concludes the show with some thoughts on burning turkeys, frying turkeys, and the many things that we have to be thankful for, and including a special thank you to first responders, police, doctors and healthcare workers, and others on the front lines dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Finally, a very special thank-you to Greg Hembree and John Bonsignor for hosting this week’s show! Reese Boyd will be back in the studio next week with another fresh pot of Saturday Morning Coffee!
This week on Saturday Morning Coffee we discuss the ongoing saga of the pending 2020 Presidential Election, the status of ongoing legal challenges and recounts ongoing in several swing states. Reese notes that if we can put a man on the moon, and return him safely to the earth, 50 years ago, we ought to be able to count ballots, better than this. Your host discusses the numerous problems with "blast mailing" of ballots and other significant changes to voting procedures that were implemented this year in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Potentially significant problems with Dominion Voting Systems' machines and other issues are discussed as well as Sydney Powell's warning that she is about to "release the Kraken." Eric Corcoran, with We the People SC, joins the show to discuss a rally in GA there in support of the ongoing recount and the upcoming Senate runoff elections. Saturday Morning Coffee remembers the contributions of Robert Rabon to the Republican Party and to his community, and Reese concludes the show with some parting wisdom, some of his favorite wisdom from Winston Churchill - "we will never surrender."
This Episode of Saturday Morning Coffee is dedicated to the Memory of Robert Lee Rabon (1950-2020). We will miss you, Robert, until we meet again!
Reese Boyd, your host for Saturday Morning Coffee, opens this episode of SMC in memory of MBPD Officer Jacob Hancher, who was killed in the line of duty this week, and Coastal Education Foundation CEO Stovall Witte, who passed away on Monday. We have a COVID-19 Update, and Reese and Producer Glenn Dye discusses the growing evidence that the "lock downs" of the US Economy, or at least many sections of it, are not effective, are not the best way to respond to the pandemic, and in fact are doing more harm than good. Reese discusses recent news related to COVID-19 and the Great Barrington Declaration, and the growing number of voices within the medical community who take issue with the manner in which much economic activity continues to be prohibited by the ongoing lockdowns.
Reese also discusses the 25th Amendment, and Speaker Pelosi's Nut-Bar Factor 5 suggestion that Congress create an independent commission to monitor the health of the POTUS and to continually monitor the fitness of the President to exercise the powers of that office. Reese also takes a call from Wes the Economist to discuss the likely impact of the Biden Tax Plan on the US Economy, if Joe Biden wins the White House in November, plus the parting wisdom!
This epidote is dedicated to the memory of Jacob Fancher and Stovall Witte.
Host Reese Boyd and Producer Glenn Dye discuss the important issues of the day, including: Reese shares an observation about the importance of obeying the traffic laws, even if you are on a bicycle! :-) He also discusses the importance of being thankful for the many blessings in our lives, even in times like the present that seem very challenging and difficult. Reese discusses the ongoing violence in Louisville and other cities across our nation, and the importance of upholding the rule of law in what amounts to acts of violence and terrorism on our soil. Reese is joined on the show by John Bonsignor to honor the memory of civil rights leader Bennie Swans, who was very active in the Myrtle Beach community and who passed away this week.
Reese talks about the National Day of Prayer going on today on the National Mall in Washington, DC, and a local event being held in North Myrtle Beach that will allow folks to gather here locally to pray for our country. It will be held Saturday beginning at 5:00 pm at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex amphi-theatre.
Reese discusses the passing and the judicial legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. We also discuss who is anticipated to be the President's pick to replace "the Notorious RBG" on the Supreme Court, Amy Coney Barrett, and her judicial background and temperament, and what sort of Justice on the Supreme Court she is anticipated to be. We discuss the Left's criticism of Judge Barrett and Sen. Diane Feinstein's that the "dogma lives strongly within" Judge Barrett. Some of Judge Barrett's specific opinions and writings are discussed.
We discuss the importance of our constitution, the importance of "originalism" in judicial interpretition, and the importance of teaching our children and young people what these charter documents mean to us. Larry Biddle calls the show to discuss the "Charters of Freedom" project and efforts to obtain to set up displays of our founding documents in various places to help pass along these important lessons to all Americans.
Reese discusses recent suggestions that the Democrats will attempt to "pack" the Supreme Court if they take the White House and Congress in the November elections.
This episode of Saturday Morning Coffee is dedicated to the memory of Bennie Swans.
On this episode of Saturday Morning Coffee, Reese discusses his recent family vacation to the mountains of NC and VA and a fun bike ride (no pedaling required!) down Virgnia's "Creeper Trail" in Damascus, VA.
Reese discusses a Coronvirus Update, including concerns about a "Labor Day spike", and recent efforts by SC Governor Henry McMaster to direct COVID relief funds to families who can used these funds for school tuition payments, even for private and religious schools. Reese discusses the amazing story of Robert O'Neil, a national hero, and the former Navy Seal who shot Osama Bin Laden, was recently removed from a Delta Airlines flight, and even worse - BANNED from all Delta flights for LIFE - for posting a "mask-less selfie" of himself aboard a Delta flight. Reese and Glen further discuss changes in the residency status of many New Yorkers, and other cities, many of whose residents are moving out because of the COVID pandemic, the lock-downs, and everything else that has happened as a result.
Reese and Producer Glenn Dye discuss the riveting DNC "Basement" convention and the media reactions to the show. Reese discusses the fact that, despite the majority of COVID-19 deaths occurring in "blue" states, the Democrats, Blue state governors and blue city mayors, and uniformly adopting the talking point that COVID-19, and ALL COVID-19 fatalities (every single one of them!) are Donald Trump's fault! We note that the only thing holding the convention's "fans" and "true believers" together is there insanely irrational hatred of President Donald Trump.
Reese discusses the Transition Integrity Project and this John Podesta project to hold "war games" on the Trump-Biden election in November. The verdict - "prepare for a mess." Reese notes the significant concern he has over the idea that prominent Democrats - and even some prominent Republicans - are "gaming" various ways they might respond to an election result in November that they do not like. The rather bizarre possibility that Nancy Pelosi might become President if the election (and its results) cannot be sorted out on a timely basis. Reese comments on the "mail in voting" epidemic that has been unleashed in various states, and what a disastrous idea mail-in voting is.
Oran Smith, with Palmetto Promise Institute, joins the show to discuss an legal challenge to Gov. McMaster's plans to allow Cares Act funds to pay for school tuition in S.C., whether the schools involved are public, virtual, private, or parochial.
Thanks for listening!

Coronavirus Update: Reese and Glenn discuss the latest news on the Coronavirus pandemic, including the sad milestone we reached in the United Status this week of 100,000 COVID-19-related fatalities since the outbreak began. We discuss the new "litmus test" - whether to wear a mask or not? - and also ongoing concerns about the renewal of emergency powers by the governor and other concerns about responding to future outbreaks of coronavirus, and regulating based on data and information, and not based on fear. Reese and Glenn discuss Reese's first-since-the-lockdown haircut and the "Sneaky Sasquatch," our favorite new game from the quarantine. After the candidate interview with Janice Morreall, Reese discusses his concerns with "Contact Tracing" and the arrival of contract tracing apps on your cell phone, which may not be "optional" in the future.
Candidate Interview with JJanice Morreale: Janice Morreal, who is running to represent District 5 on the Horry County School Board, joins us on the show to talk about her campaign for school board, how the State of South Carolina and Horry County Schools have responded to the Covid-19 pandemic, the propspects for a "brick and mortar" re-opening of our schools in the Fall, graduation exercises and the prospects for high school football in the fall.
Interview with Don Bowne: Don Boune, with the Red Hats for Trump organization, joins Reese on the show to discuss the upcoming Stand for Freedom Rally, which will be held in Murrells Inlet, SC on June 14, 2020 (Flag Day and the President's Birthday!), and some of the special guests that we will have on hand for what is bound to be a great, HUGE, and amazing day to stand for Liberty and Freedom!
Parting Wisdom: Reese concludes the show by discussing the senseless and barbaric killing of George Floyd, and what it does (and does not mean). Reese wraps up the show with a memorial tribute to the lasting legacy of George Floyd, who was a Believer who worked to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to many. This episode of Saturday Morning Coffee is dedicated to the memory of George Floyd. From all of us on the Saturday Morning Coffee Team, thanks for listening!
Thank you,
Reese Boyd
Memorial Day: We remember Memorial Day and those who have sacrificed their lives on the many battlefields where liberty and freedom have been defended. Reese discusses the origins of the Memorial Day holiday and some thoughts that he's had this week, reflecting on the meaning of the Holiday in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and the various "lock-down" orders that have been issued by Governors across the Country in response.
Coronavirus Update: Reese and Glenn discuss a brief update to the case and fatality numbers for COVID-19, and the contradictory statements that have been issued about the virus since this pandemic began, and how we are still learning about this virus and that we still have much to learn before we understand it. A case in point is CDC's statement this week that the virus is generally NOT transmitted by touching contaminated surfaces, but rather by person-to-person infection.
Candidate Interview with John Gallman: John Gallman joins us to discuss his campaign for S.C. Senate District 33 in the upcoming GOP Primary on June 9, 2020.
Interview with Rev. Jim Watkins: Rev. Jim Watkins joins the show to discuss the work of SODA, Stop Offshore Drilling in the Atlantic, a grass-roots public lobbying group that was formed several years ago to oppose efforts to bring offshore oil drilling to the Atlantic Ocean and to South Carolina's coastal waters.

From all of us on the Saturday Morning Coffee Team, thanks for listening!
Coronavirus Update: Reese and Glenn discuss a brief update to the case and fatality numbers for COVID-19, and the many ways in which the coronavirus pandemic has changed our lives that are not likely to return to "normal" even after the COVID-19 pandemic is over. Reese notes a podcast listener has been "tuning in" from Australia and that listener is invited to call in to the show. We discuss the President's push - operation "Warp Speed" - for more coronavirus testing capacity in the US. Reese asks when we get to the "New Normal" and we discuss the ongoing question of whether China and the CCP may ever be held responsible for its actions contributing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Candidate Interview with Mark Epps: Mark Epps drops in to the show to discuss his campaign for S.C. House District 68 and the upcoming GOP Primary on June 9, 2020.
SCGOP: Reese discusses recent mailers that have been sent out on behalf of certain candidates in various races in the GOP Primaries, and how the Party seems to be unable to resist putting its "finger on the scale" while seemingly tasked with at least the nominal task of hosting a party primary that is fair and offers a level playing field to all candidates. Recent mailers sent out by the Party supporting some candidates (ie, incumbents) over others (ie, challengers) are unfair on numerous levels, reek of swamp gas, and firmly establish "incumbency protection" as the Party's highest priority.
Interview with Rep. Tim McGinnis: Rep. Tim McGinnis joins the show to discuss the coronavirus pandemic, and some of the things the he is working on in the General Assembly, including a rent relief proposal for small business that he recently forwarded to the Governor, to help small business owners and entrepreneurs survive the COVID pandemic and the continuing effects of the economic shut down. Tim also shares his perspective as a small businessman and restaurant owner on the challenges of operating successfully, even now that restaurants have the opportunity to re-open dine-in service, but only to 50% of their pre-pandemic seating capacity.
S. 1200 - S.C. Senate Resolution Rebukes Governor: We discuss S. 1200, a Resolution passed this week which condemns Gov. McMaster for repeatedly using the power to declare an ongoing State of Emergency in South Carolina, for a period of more than 15 days, without obtaining the specific consent of the General Assembly.
From all of us on the Saturday Morning Coffee Team, thanks for listening!
Coronavirus Update: Reese and Glenn discuss a brief update to the case and fatality numbers for COVID-19, and discuss a growing body of evidence and data that may suggest that the "cure" - the economic lock-down and the various "stay at home" orders that many Governors have adopted - may be worse than the actual harm caused by the COVID-19 disease. We discuss the role that China may have played in contributing to the spread and the ultimate harm caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We discuss the threats to our constitutional liberties that (in our opinion) far too many Americans have been willing to tolerate (and in some instances, encourage). Lex Rex or Rex Lex?... Reese discusses the importance of the Rule of Law. We discuss the "disastrously wrong" modeling that all these COVID-19 policies and government interventions have been based upon, and the fact that the statistically disastrous modeling had social distancing and other counter measures "baked in" to it, despite what some are saying now.
Candidate Interview with Steve Robertson: Steve Robertson drops in to the show to discuss his campaign for S.C. House District 105.
Interview with Councilman Tyler Servant: Horry County Councilman Tyler Servant joins the show to discuss the coronavirus pandemic, and some of the things the County is doing to assist folks and businesses, and the "AccelerateSC" Task Force that Govern McMaster has appointed to help in getting South Carolina's economy going again.
Reese closes the show with our Parting Wisdom Segment.
From all of us on the Saturday Morning Coffee Team, thanks for listening!
Coronavirus Update: we discuss all the things that we appreciate more now as a result of the "shelter in place" and quarantine orders. Reese discusses how toilet paper rationing has come to the Boyd household, and we reflect on life in a land of unprecedented abundance, and the many things we have to be thankful for. We discuss the economic side of the quarantine and the economic lock-down, and whether continuing the quarantine orders are justified, or whether we should open our economy back up. Reese Boyd discusses soaring unemployment numbers and the massive human suffering that has been unleashed by the economic shut-down. Reese and Glenn discuss the IMHE and other models public health officials have relied upon which have massively overstated the COVID-19 mortality rates we are observing now that the actual data is becoming available. Reese discusses how Democrats have been peddling fear and panic on this issue. Reese discusses how both reasons given for the massive shut down of our economy - the massive death tolls and the anticipated overwhelming of the health care system - have not materialized.
Candidate Interview with Case Brittain: Reese gives some free advice to all political candidates and Case Brittain drops in to the show to discuss his campaign for S.C. House District 107.
Fiscal and Monetary Troubles Ahead: Reese discusses his concerns about the massive federal deficit, and the huge blow to our fiscal house that the COVID-19 bailout programs represent, and the very real danger that a fiscal and monetary crisis is looming over the horizon. We discuss just one example of some of the wasteful spending in the COVID-19 bailout package, and the (very good) idea being bandied about Washington - a payroll tax holiday.
Closing: Reese discusses the streaming habits of Americans stuck in their homes for quarantine, and we conclude the show with our Parting Wisdom Segment.
Thanks for listening!
