Jesus says, “The Sabbath is about me!” I’m the fulfillment of it. And if you want to honor the Sabbath, you will begin by honoring me. If you want rest, you will get it by coming to me! Christ wants you to have rest so bad. He wants you to know this rest so much that he climbed on a colt…rode into Jerusalem…and knowing that he would be betrayed, beaten, and brutally put to death…he went to the cross and suffered humiliation and shame so that you could enter his Sabbath rest once and for all. Do you know Christ today? Not rules…not regulations…are you following him in a relationship?

What is Jesus saying in Luke 5? Bottom line: “I’m breaking preconceived notions! You don’t get to God by obeying the law. You get to God by following me! No more trying to patch up your old way of life. I’m providing you something entirely new. Its never been done before! It’s me! And what Jesus is asking of you is the exact same thing he asked of Levi many years ago. “Follow me.” Have you made that decision?

Heb. 13:12-13 – “So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood. Therefore let us go to him outside the camp and bear the reproach he endured.”

Luke 5:11 – “And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.” Prestonwood…let’s launch into the deep…let’s cast our nets…and lets see God give us the catch of a lifetime for his glory…it is THE only way to live...fully devoted and surrendered to our Great God. Do you know him today?

Did you catch that? Preaching the good news…”its WHY I have come!” Does God want to set you free? Does God want to heal? Does God want to restore and remove scales from eyes? Absolutely…but in a much deeper way than a physical sense. In a spiritual sense, this is what Jesus did when he died on a cross for our sins. THE GOSPEL.

Jesus is the perfect case study in saying ‘no’ to temptation and to Satan. He is our ultimate example on fighting and winning the battle for our purity and our integrity. It’s not just important that we know the word, we MUST appropriate it into our lives!

Jesus was the spotless lamb. The lamb without blemish. In this passage of Luke, we simply see the grace of God in that Jesus is once again identifying with those he came to save!

“I Believe in you”…this is the confession of so many. As we continue in this series seeking to answer this question, “Why, Believe”, it is a passage like this one that we are looking at that points to the authenticity of the message of Jesus Christ.

The choice of what people did with Jesus in the day in which he lived is the same choice that people have to make about Jesus today. We can believe…trust in him…and rise. Or we can do exactly what the mass majority of the people did with Jesus and that is reject him…say not to his lordship in our lives…and as a result fall away. Either way, there is no middle ground. Christ demands that you do something with him! So what will it be?

No one is too far...no one too dirty...no one too trenched in sin, that this message cannot touch their heart and save their soul! God loves you. For those of you considering the question, ''Why, believe?''…look at God becoming man and find in that manger every reason you need to trust him and call on him as Lord.
