Jesus was a post-Exile Jew living under Roman oppression, and that context influenced his life and ministry. Understanding the whole life context of Jesus makes his teachings and actions pop in new, powerful ways.
Eric contrasts the "bible fell from the sky" assumption with the reality that the bible has contexts we must try to understand. He gives examples of contradictory scriptures that aren't actually that contradictory if one understands their context, and then he offers three guidelines for interpreting and applying scripture appropriately.
Eric defines "deconstruction" of faith through his own experience and the example a developing understanding of King David, the "man after God's own heart" who raped and murdered.
