Millions of women across the country are celebrating the federal government's pre-election $793 million women's health investment, following a national survey which found two thirds of women reported experiencing gender bias or discrimination in the health system. But not everyone is included in the benefits around cheaper medication and rebates for longer consultations, with women on temporary visas still often forced to sacrifice health care needs due to financial and cultural barriers.

Labor's response to Israel's war in Gaza might come back to haunt them in this weekend's federal election. Many in Australia's Muslim and Arab communities say they intend to vote Labor out in favour of Independents or third parties such as the Greens. Some independents argue that Labor has long taken their community's support for granted.

While electoral enrolment is currently at an all-time high, voter turnout has been in decline since 2007. The 2022 election saw turnout drop to its lowest level since compulsory voting was introduced in 1925. And one area where voter participation is especially low is in remote communities.

In the final week of the 2025 federal election, Labor has announced it will increase international student visa application fees, if re-elected. This comes as the party reveals its election costings, hoping to fund $760 million in election promises by raising international student visa fees from $1,600 to $2,000.
