Hello, my name is Dr. Cary Yurkiw, DC and I chose to become a business coach two years ago because I wanted to share my experience with new doctors and therapists in practice. Hello, it's Dr. Yurkiw here and welcome to today's practice minute. Today I want to talk about customer service. What makes one Clinic more successful than another are several factors, including customer service. Today I had fantastic customer service from American Express. The customer service rep on the phone could answer some of my questions but had to transfer me to another department to answer the others. She was having difficulty doing that but continued to check in on me and update me on how she was doing about every 20 to 30 seconds. Once she was successful, I told her I appreciated the answer she gave me and the accountability to keep me posted on the process and not leaving me on hold for too long. The way it made me feel was I was important to her and the company. I wanted to share this example with you so you can focus on customer service with your employees as they are a direct extension of you in your clinic. Hello everyone, and thanks for joining us for today's Practice Minute. Today we review student loans and how to refinance your student debt. Once you get a job and have a steady income, you can go to the bank and apply to refinance your loan. If you have any collateral like a car, real estate, or investments, you should tell the bank about that because they do like security against a loan. This will lower your payments and interest. Ask for semi-monthly payments, which are twice a month to coincide with your pay periods. You should be able to reduce your loan from 5 -10% interest down to 3 - 4% interest, depending on your situation and the current market. Welcome to today’s Practice Minute. Today were talking about the process of hiring employees and professionals for your clinic. This is one of the most important things you can do as an owner or manager of a practice. Today I want to talk about the vetting process. This is how we do recruitment at our company. I’ve hired over 200 staff through my placement agency and practices. Compile an accurate description in an advertisement to put on social media to attract the right people. Describe what you are looking for in a candidate and the responsibilities the person should have. When candidates apply meet with them just to get a general sense of what they’re like and whether they would be a good fit. Sometimes for professionals this meeting needs to be done on the phone or using videoconferencing. Then follow up with questions in a timely manner to have another meeting. Get into the particulars of the job and the responsibilities; ask questions whether the candidate can handle those responsibilities and if they’ve had any experience with that type of job duty. Note their general attitude and willingness to do the tasks and / or to learn new ones. Encourage the candidate to interact with you and have a dialogue with them. Do reference checks asking about particular details on the candidates resume or CV. Meet with the candidate a third time to discuss anything you found during reference checks or have thought about since the previous two calls. Then work out the particulars like their schedule, responsibilities, and rate of pay or salary. Finally set up a probationary period of at least 90 days to interact with the employee and see if they are a good fit for your team. Taking your time, getting to know the person, and be thorough which is the best way to hire a new team member that could be with you for a very long time and be very productive for your clinic. Welcome to today’s Practice Minute. Today I wanted to share with you what it is like to be a Professional Recruiter. I woke up and received an email from a doctor that was interested in moving to another jurisdiction where I have clients. She saw my ad in the Professional Association newsletter. I responded to her email asking questions like what Professional School she attended, when did she graduate from and where did she practice. I also asked for her resume or CV. I received that and contacted my client to see if he was interested in this doctor and if he had any questions which he did. I got back to the candidate asked the questions about her experience and her expectations for employment. She wanted a certain salary and conditions which I let my client know. We negotiated a bit on their terms back and forth a couple times initially by phone then by text. I have set up a phone call to introduce them tomorrow and will send information to them tonight on the other party. I will also get some talking points together and ask each party if they have any questions before the phone call.
