Saturday, September 19 was the INTERNATIONAL TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY. I admit, not quite as big a holiday as Thanksgiving and Christmas to most Americans – but it’s a big day on the Scandal Sheet calendar. Why, you ask? Because many of the same goof balls that bring you Scandal sheet episodes twice a month produced these 2, scripted comedy opens related to pirates. It’s totally hilarious!. I’m going to brag because this is 16 track stereo production with music and sound effects. Special thanks to our amazing cast that should have won Emmys – Kassia Oset, my co-host, Len from Manhattan, that plays the head pirate, handsome Rob from the East side of Manhattan, and David Grover (voted 6 time super lawyer in NYC) round out the cast. Last but not least is Jill Grover, David’s wife, that voices the parrot. Happy ‘talk like a pirate week’ to all!

On the occasion of a new hit movie about the early years of Anthony Bourdain in the food service restaurant world, we thought it would be a great idea to replay this interview. The name of movie is simply “Tony” and it has been very well reviewed. Bourdain  - celebrity chef, best-selling author, and international television star -unexpectedly committed apparent suicide at age 62 - at the very zenith of his fame. How could this possibly happen? And what lessons for us lie beneath this Shakespearean tragedy?

Today, we think of the movie “Jaws” as a blockbuster game-changer in movie history. But back in 1973-1975, it appeared to be the biggest financial disaster in cinema history to producing company Universal Studios and many Hollywood insiders. Directed by a talented, but inexperienced and unknown filmmaker, Steven Spielberg, it appeared to be a runaway train leading the studio to eventual bankruptcy. The initial shooting schedule swelled from 55 days to 159 days. And the budget soared from $3.5 million to $12 million. Almost everything went wrong. Spielberg, an age 24 TV director, had no idea what he was doing on a project of this massive scale. They started with no useable script and they spent $1.5 million on a mechanical shark that mostly didn’t work while shooting. Also, there was drug and alcohol addiction among the major actors. How could the production of this movie possibly be worse? And yes, it eventually became the most successful film of all time to that date – BUT HOW THE HECK DID THAT HAPPEN? We tell you the REAL story behind the scenes.
