Welcome to the 2019 Gimmick Awards! It's time to talk the year that was 2019, in games and anime. Jen and Six are starting off with Hot and Cold: what are the three games that were the most split between their high highs and low lows? The nominees are:
Death Stranding
Our intro music is Dearly Beloved from Kingdom Hearts 3.
I continue to regret naming this feature "Game of the Generation" as we continue to discuss one system at a time rather than full generations! Idk maybe I can think of a plot twist to make this make sense down the line. Harri, Jen, Kyrie, and Six assemble to discuss the best games of the GBA, and form an ordered top ten list out of them!
The video game season is in full effect, and we're ready to give thanks for its bounty. Kyrie is counter-programming Pokemon by playing Digimon Cyber Sleuth, while Six and Jen have Sword and Shield thoughts. Jen's been checking out Guildlings on Apple Arcade, and Six is exploring anime girls with PTSD via Girls Frontline.
When it comes to fighting games, the shoto character type is the glue that holds them together. A flexible, easily understood toolset, a simple but deep presence. What makes a great shoto? Six and Kyrie assemble to talk about the great shotos of the genre.
This year has seen quite a few games framed around investigations. Among them are Judgment, AI: The Somnium Files, and Astral Chain. Six and Jen sit down to talk about these games in-depth, and about investigation mechanics in 2019 games. Spoiler levels vary: fairly non-specific spoilers for AI, structural/plot pacing spoilers for Judgment, and fairly thorough spoilers for Astral Chain. Oh! And Evangelion. We sorta spoil Evangelion XD I think our conversation wouldn't take your enjoyment of any of these games or the show away, but please be warned.
