Scarif Scuttlebutt Podcast

Our Q&A series 5Questions returns with a great discussion with Patreon Supporter Nic from Back Yard Tardis. We've got 5 Questions un rehearsed and un cut, totally honest takes off the cuff and unadulterated. This is a great way to get to know our friends and supporters. Big thanks to Rural Farm Boy for submitting a question of his own for us to tackle. Like this series of shows? Let us know, reach out to us on all our socials.

Episode 164 begins our discussion on one of the most influential science fiction films, the original Planet of the Apes. Originally released in 1968, this film was co-written by Twilight Zone master Rod Serling from a previous work, but it packs a punch and it still does. Science fiction has the tendency to look at society through the lens of the genre's best written movies, this movie certainly lives up to that.

Join Ro and guest Alexander Moylan as they journey through the first APES movie with more to come. What do you remember about the film? Is that final shot still as exciting and thought provoking as it was when you first saw it? Give us your take.

If you enjoy the show please share it with friends and fans of movies. The Scarif Podcast is aimed to help generate level headed discussion and you, our listening audience, is helping us do just that. Thank you.

Join Ro and Dave Humphrys from 'What Star Wars Means To You' do a little 5-Questions, our long format Q&A. This week we have Dave return to the show after guesting on his. Five questions asked with answers off the cuff, unadulterated and honest. We don't see these questions before hand, no preparation, no warning, just honest takes.

This episode could have been a two-parter, as Dave and Ro went off the path and dove into some thought provoking rabbit holes. But those extra tidbits will be saved for our Patron audio feed.

Our 5-Question series is always fun and insightful. Make sure to tell a friend or play along with us and see how YOU would answer.

Thank you for listening and remember, it's always sunny on Scarif, and that's the scuttlebutt!

Ro is joined by Andrew and Merisha of the Science Fictionary Podcast @Sci_Fictionary to discuss our TOP3 Movie MacGuffins according to us. We define the MacGuffin and discuss why these plot devices are so important, but we also pick some favorites. In science fiction and fantasy tehre are so man great MacGuffins, so this was a tough task, but we managed to get in a good mix of selections that spanned across a good group of movie MacGuffins. Check it out.

PLUS, the return of a listener favorite segment, Sentry Mode. We dragged Hyperspace Heroes Podcast, @Brown_Squadron into the hot seat and asked 5 trivia questions across the geekosphere. See how he did and play along. Yes, yell your answers at the speaker.

The boys of the ConverSWations Podcast join Ro to talk about cybernetics in Star Wars and we dip into the real world. How far would you go to enhance a body part? (don't answer that). We ask what our favorite cybernetic enhancement is and how those enhancements helped guide real world cybernetics. Will we see someone with blow torch fingers, a walking iron lung or a Swiss Army hand sometime in the real world soon? We'll see.

Join us in the discussion and big thanks to Justin Reynolds and Anthony the Real Rural Farm Boy for their voicemails on the topic.

As always if you have feedback or want to leave us a voicemail on this or any other show topic, give us a call on the Scuttlebutt Hotline at 773-234-8659, and That's THe Scuttlebutt.

As a Star Wars fan we rely on 'sight' to help us carry our experience to a far away place. When you are a Star Wars fan who is blind or visually impaired, I'm sure most of us can't imagine NOT being able to see the wonderful visuals of the franchise.

This week Ro talks with Robert Kingett, an accessibility advocate who works on many projects including providing scripts for audio descriptive functionality for film and television. We're all familiar with Closed Captions, but have you see Star Wars with the AUDIO DESCRIPTIVE channel on? It's quite an experience.

I hope you enjoy hearing this discussion, as I'm sure it's a unique topic for the show here. If you like this one, please tell a friend.
