  • Episode 134 - Scatterbrain Podcast: The Power of Metal Compels You, Volume 2

Welcome to Scatterbrain Podcast Episode 134: The Power of Metal Compels You, Volume 2!

Sometimes you just have to say, "Screw it", and go with the flow.

Once again, the power of metal compelled us to talk about music rather than what we intended to talk about (Space Race, part 3).

This week, we each challenge the other to check out an album from our youth. We talk about "Blessing in Disguise" by Metal Church and "Why Play Around?", by Wargasm. Were these albums we missed and shouldn't have? Or are these albums stinkers, and unknown to us for a reason?

On a whim, we try something else new this week: We tell you which album we are reviewing next week, so you can listen ahead of time, to see how our impressions of the album compare to yours. Which album? You need to listen to find out!

Next week, it's back to the next installment in our "Space Race" series.

If you're not already doing so, follow us on Twitter (@ScatterbrainPod) and on Instagram (@ScatterbrainPodSD). While you're at it, please don't forget to like/rate/review/share on your favorite podcast platform. It really helps get more eyes and ears on the podcast.

  • Episode 133 - Scatterbrain Podcast: The Chief Designer ( Space Race Part 2 )

Welcome to Scatterbrain Podcast - Episode 133: The Chief Designer ( Space Race Part 2 ).

This is Part 2 in our Space Race series. Part 1 was about where it all started: Sputnik 1 and the impact it had on the world. This week we cover Sergei Korolev, the man who was solely responsible for it's existence, and for the many firsts he accomplished in the years following that monumental feat. His unexpected death in 1966 negatively impacted the Soviet Space Program profoundly. Quite possibly to the benefit of The United States' goal of landing a man on the moon. All but forgotten today, he is widely acknowledged as "The Father of Astronautics". His genius only matched by his rival ( who we will cover next week ). Never heard of him? Didn't think so. You need to listen.

    Thanks for joining us, everyone.

"When someone insults you by showing no appreciation for your time and effort, tell them to suck rocks and never think of them again. No one needs to waste their time and energy on someone who doesn't realize that they would be so much worse off without you. You will be missed more than you will miss them, and they will be left with only themselves to blame."

  • Episode 132 - Scatterbrain Podcast: Sputnik 1 and the Beginning of the Space Race

Welcome to Scatterbrain Podcast Episode 132!

We've been talking a lot lately about space research and space exploration, so it only makes sense to talk about what started it all: Sputnik 1. We talk about the early missions to space and the ensuing "space race" between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. during the Cold War.

We also talk about a couple of new albums this week: "Survival of the Sickest", the latest from Bloodbath and  "A Blind Eye", from Assault

  • Episode 130 - Scatterbrain Podcast: Flying Rods

Welcome to Scatterbrain Podcast Episode 130!

This week's episode is about rods.  No, not that kind of rod, you perv. Get your mind out of the gutter... actually, please don't. You do you!

We talk about "flying rods", also known as "skyfish" or "skyfish rods". These interesting little things occasionally and unexpectedly appear in videos and photographs taken by people all over the world. Some people think they are some sort of animal, or even aliens. Others believe there is a much more practical explanation. Listen, and come to your own conclusion.

We also talk about some cool space-related news and review the album “The Art of a Maniac”, from Canadian thrashers, Tymo.

Thanks for your ongoing support and for listening each week. Please don't forget to review us on GoodPods, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever else you consume podcasts.

  • Scatterbrain Podcast Presents - Vol. 3: Epic Anger 77

Scatterbrain Podcast Presents - Vol. 3: Epic Anger 77 was recorded in 2015. It is various guitar riffs recorded from 2012 - 2015, edited together to create one long composition -  the drum track recorded in one take in September, 2015.

This is Ian playing the guitar, drums, and doing the vocals. It was not meant to be anything but a spontaneous creation for musical therapy.

Find the proper time and place to listen to this front to back at high volume. Perhaps while you are on a road trip, or working on a project that requires background noise. 77 minutes will be gone before you know it, and you'll be asking yourself, " What the hell did I just listen to?". And then you will be playing it over again.

Welcome to Scatterbrain Podcast Episode 128!

Join us this week for a discussion on Morgellons Disease. This one will make your skin crawl. What is this disorder and what are the causes? According to some individuals, this disease is the result of a nefarious conspiracy. Some doctors believe this is "all in the head" while other doctors and researchers suggest another plausible explanation.

  • Episode 126 - Scatterbrain Podcast: Voices from a Mile High

Welcome to Scatterbrain Podcast Episode 126!

"Ladies and gentleman, this is your stewardess speaking. We regret any inconvenience the sudden cabin movement might have caused. This is due to periodic air pockets we encountered. There's no reason to be alarmed and we hope you enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?"

If you ever hear that on a flight, you know you're in trouble. Recording from the Mile High City, Ian tells us about his flight into Denver, piloted by the most aggressive yet effective commercial pilot he's ever flown with. Definitely not sluggish, like a wet sponge.

This week, we catch up and then talk briefly about NASA's Artemis I lunar mission. We ponder the past, present, and future missions to the moon while wondering if there is something on the moon they aren't telling us about.

Then, we review some new music from Paris, France: "Voices From the Void", the latest release from thrash metal band, Blackened.

Thanks for listening and your ongoing support.
