This year at ISTE 2017, I had the opportunity to sit down with Frank Catalano and Susan Adelmann to learn about the SchoolMessenger app, a new 2-way mobile and web application in the SchoolMessenger solutions family for use with the SchoolMessenger Communicate service.

For the last 17 years, their parent company West has been a leader in school communication systems and this year they are introducing the SchoolMessenger app as a simple way for teachers and school districts to quickly alert their communities about emergencies, share great news about special events, and even provide a quick way for parents to notify schools when students will be absent.

During the interview, I asked what sets SchoolMessenger apart from other popular messaging systems.  They mentioned one key component that I have yet to see from others in their category.  SchoolMessenger has the ability to integrate with a Student Information System and pull in contact information for students and parents.  By doing this, parents have the option of receiving text messages, email communication, or voice messages when alerts need to be sent out.
