It's a new season of Science is here, and in the first episode, the spotlight is on magnetic materials and their use in current and future data storage devices, like magnetic racetrack memory.
To discuss their work on these fascinating materials, host Barry Fitzgerald is joined by Mariëlle Meijer and Juriaan Lucassen.
Mariëlle is currently a PhD researcher in the Physics of Nanostructures group at Eindhoven University of Technology, while Juriaan is a former colleague of Mariëlle and he finished his PhD in May 2020.
Lots of cool topics are discussed in this episode such as the difference between magnetic spins and magnetic domain walls, the surprise results from Friday afternoon experiments, and why it's important to celebrate big findings outside of the magnetic materials laboratory!
You can read more about this research on the TU/e website in the article "Getting to the final lap of the magnetic racetrack".
