“All my tears had been wiped away when you gave me love.” I use House Music as my own form of therapy. At the time I mixed this set, I didn’t intend for it to serve this purpose. But I can honestly say that when I listened to it, it kicked my ass. The surprise was track 4, “Happy,” by Ferry Ultra and Gwen McCrea. Suffice to say that I’m happy with this one. So if you’re down and feeling as if things aren’t great, just remember to take your problems to the dancefloor.

Frankie Knuckles’ 8 hour set at the Saint’s 2001 White Party at NYC’s glorious Roseland Ballroom was not only unforgettable, it was life changing. He had such grace. He understood how to shape a party. And he always knew how to give the dancefloor exactly what they wanted. Long live Frankie.

It’s great to play an event where no one knows they like House Music, and then come away thinking that the music provided the perfect soundtrack to the evening. Earlier this week I had the pleasure of playing in the Imperial Ballroom of Grand Rapids’ famed Grand Plaza Hotel. (Thanks to the Michigan Nonprofit Association for the great opportunity!)
