- Acts 24:1-9 – Tertullas accuses Paul in court. Paul’s reputation is now firmly established as a Christian. Compare Acts 24:7 to Acts 23:27 for two versions of the same events.
- Acts 24:25 – Compare Acts 2:41; 8:36; 16:33.
- Acts 25:12 – See Acts 19:21; 23:11. God’s plan was always for Paul to end up in Rome.
- Acts 25:23-27 – This fulfills Jesus’ prophecy that Paul would bear His name “before the Gentiles and kings” (Acts 9:15).

- James 2:1-26
- James 2:1 – The faith here includes the fact that God loved the world so much that Christ died for it. Acts 10:34-35; Romans 2:11; I Timothy 5:21; James 3:17
- James 2:2-4 – We have a natural tendency to show partiality toward the wealthy and well-dressed. We must constantly guard against this! See Leviticus 19:15.
- James 2:5 – God chose the poor to be rich in faith, so why should we discriminate against them? Matthew 5; Luke 16:19-22
- James 2:8-9 – Compare Matthew 22:36-40. Partiality is sin.
- James 2:10-11 – Sin is sin. James compares adultery and murder.
- James 2:14 – Until you embrace your faith and put it into action, it’s not real faith!
- James 2:26 – If faith without works is dead, faith alone cannot save you. Faith naturally results in good works.

- Luke 22:24-22:42
- Luke 22:26 – In order to be great in the kingdom of God, we must serve others.
- Luke 22:30 – Compare Jeremiah 1:9, 17; 13:15; 26:2, 12-13; Hebrews 13:10. God set Jeremiah as judge over the tribes of Israel. The apostles would have this role in the New Covenant. They would judge by laying down God’s rules.
- Luke 22:36 – Jesus was not necessarily telling them to buy swords. He was telling the apostles to equip themselves to do the work they were about to do.

The power of God in the gospel can still convert people!

- Acts 21:27-23:35
- Acts 22:1-5 – Paul starts his defense by addressing the crowd in a respectful way, using a language they understand, and building a connection with them by showing that he is a Jew and was zealous for the law just like them.
- Acts 22:16 – Here we learn what Ananias said to Paul in Acts 9. Note that Paul definitely believed, but his sins were not forgiven until he was baptized.
- Acts 22:17-21 – This is the only record we have of this trance and the personal warning from Jesus to Paul to leave Jerusalem.
- Acts 22:21-22 – The crowd turned on Paul when he mentioned that God had sent him to the Gentiles.
- Acts 22:25 – There is no need for Christians to suffer unnecessarily. Paul used his citizenship to legally protect himself.
- Acts 23:1 – It is possible to be sincerely wrong, as Paul shows here. Ananias and the Jews were infuriated by what Paul said because to them, he was the worst kind of criminal that had associated with Gentiles, turned his back on the traditions, and then proclaimed that his conscience was clear.
- Acts 23:2-5 – Paul may be making a dig here at Ananias because Ananias was not a legitimate high priest. He was not of the right lineage.
- Acts 23:6-10 – Compare Acts 4:1-2.
- Acts 23:27 – Compare Acts 22:24ff. Claudius Lysias left out the part where he almost scourged Paul.

- Luke 21:32-22:37
- Luke 21:32 – This shows conclusively that the preceding prophecy had a fulfillment coming in the near term, that is, the prophecy was about the coming destruction at the hand of the Romans – not the second coming of Christ.
- Luke 21:33 – The Jews understood there to be three heavens: the sky where the birds fly, the heavens where the stars and planets are, and the eternal abode of God.
- Luke 22:17-20 – In verses 17-18, Jesus is eating the Passover with the disciples. Then in verses 19-20, Jesus institutes the Lord’s Supper. The bread and the cup are memorials of Jesus – they do not represent Him.
