- Discussion on how a church uses its money:

- In the New Testament, benevolence is sent church to church. Support to preach the gospel is sent directly to the receiving preacher.

- Provide livelihood for its own needy members (Acts 4:34-35; 6:1-6)
- Send alms to another church that has more needy members than it can relieve so it can provide livelihood for its own needy members. I Corinthians 16:1-2; Romans 15:25-32; II Corinthians 8-9
- The New Testament pattern is for one church to send money directly to another needy church. The elders of the receiving church are to disburse the funds.
- Churches are not authorized in the New Testament to set themselves up as sponsoring churches so that they can collect money from many churches to use for benevolence.

- Introduction

- Genesis 16 – Sarah tried to take the lead.
- What characteristics and attitudes should a husband have exercising his role as head?
- Ephesians 5 – Be more concerned about his wife’s welfare than his own.
- What types of decisions should a husband make (financial, spiritual, discipline, etc.)?
- The husband should take the lead in all decisions. It is more a question of how he leads in making those decisions.
- I Timothy 3:5
- As long as the wife’s wishes are in accordance with God’s will, the husband should give them due consideration. The same goes for the wife with regard to the husband’s wishes.
- What about a situation where the wife is a stronger personality than the husband?
- The husband should try to shore up his personality and take the lead.
- The wife should submit to him and encourage him to take the lead.
- If the husband still won’t take the lead, the marriage is in trouble. She will have to take the lead in some things for the good of the family, but that will be his sin and not hers.
- What about a situation where the husband takes the wrong lead?
- In this case she must obey God rather than her husband. Acts 4:19; 5:29
- Considering the things that were specifically mentioned:
- Financial: Husband must take the lead to keep the family solvent.
- Spiritual: Husband must take the lead in encouraging the family to serve the Lord.
- Discipline: Husband must take the lead in disciplining children the proper way. The husband and wife should both be consistent in this, but if one won’t discipline, the other must for the good of the children.
