Sean Loloee investigation update | Understanding California gas prices | Can the Sacramento Kings break a losing streak?

Listen Later

Investigation finds a Sacramento council member lives in the district they represent. Why is the price of gasoline in California so high? Can the Sacramento Kings break a record 16-season losing streak and make it to the playoffs?

Sean Loloee investigation

A nearly three-month investigation into a Sacramento City Council member is complete. Accusations that Council Member Sean Loloee does not live in the North Sacramento district he serves, instead in a million-dollar Granite Bay home in neighboring Placer County, have been put to rest in Loloee’s favor. The independent investigation found the Sacramento City Council member meets residency requirements. CapRadio's Sacramento Government Reporter Kristin Lam joins to share her reporting on how the council member and the community he serves moves forward.

California gas prices

Some 23 million Californians began seeing direct deposits to buffer the high cost of living in the state. The payments, which were part of a state budget deal back in June, were meant to ease the pain at the pump. Although prices are not as high as this summer and are beginning to decline, they are still well above the national average. As of this morning, the average price of gas in California is just over $6 a gallon. The national average is more than two bucks less (at $3.87). But California’s price-per-gallon is up 56 cents from a month ago and more than $1.54 compared to the same time last year, according to AAA. The frustration is palpable. And blame and solutions are being thrown around the partisan roundtable, especially with an election fast approaching. To go beyond politics and make sense of the dollars we’re paying at the pump, Insight invited Erich Muehlegger, a professor of economics at UC Davis, onto the program.

Kings season kickoff

They say there are two guarantees in life, death, and taxes. If you're a Sacramento Kings fan, you can add another: missing the playoffs. That has been the case for the past 16 years. An entire generation of fans has never seen their hometown team in the postseason. The Kings will kick off another season of NBA basketball full of hope to finally make the postseason and break the longest streak of any team in professional sports. The dream has always been of rallies and parades along the Capitol Mall, but since 2007 those dreams have been dashed year after year. So, will this be the year? FOX40 sports reporter Sean Cunningham has covered the team for years and joined Insight to weigh in on the Kings and if this could be the season where the Kings finally make it.
