  • Empty Worship and the Wonder of God
In this deeply reflective and doctrinally rich sermon, Pastor Eric Noorthoek addresses one of the most vital—and most misunderstood—aspects of Christian life: the role of affections. Drawing from 1 John and the work of Jonathan Edwards (Religious Affections), the sermon challenges both the cold orthodoxy of truth without love and the enthusiasm of zeal without knowledge. True religion, as Edwards observed, consists greatly in holy affections. But what are affections, and how do they differ from emotions? How do knowledge, will, and love work together in the soul of a regenerate believer? Pastor Eric walks through the biblical understanding of the inner life: the mind as the faculty of truth, the will as the executor of desire, and the heart as the control center of the soul. He emphasizes that mere outward profession, doctrinal accuracy, or emotional experiences are not the mark of spiritual life—transformed affections are. This message is a call to spiritual integrity. It urges believers not to settle for shallow feelings or performative religion, but to pursue deep, Spirit-wrought affections shaped by truth, leading to a life of godliness, love, and joy in Christ.

  • In The Beginning - Dr. Richard D. Phillips
The sermon emphasizes the foundational significance of Genesis 1:1, asserting that it establishes God as the transcendent Creator of all things, both visible and invisible, and underscores humanity's accountability to Him. Drawing on themes from Paul's writings in Romans and Jonathan Edwards' treatise, it highlights the importance of recognizing God's glory as the ultimate purpose of creation and contrasts this with modern trends like pantheism and neo-paganism. The message connects the vastness of scientific discovery with the awe-inspiring power of God, ultimately calling listeners to acknowledge God's Sovereignty, embrace the story of Redemption, and find Salvation through Jesus Christ.

  • The Fortunate Fall
All Christians understand the tragedy of the Fall of humanity that occurred in the Garden of Eden. However, not many Christians have considered the Fall from two aspects. First, God's sovereignty means He allowed the Fall. Second, the Fall would be the means by which God would be most glorified. Listen to this message from Pastor Don Strand and find out why these two statements are biblically true. The sermon explores the seemingly paradoxical notion that humanity's fall was a necessary component of God's plan, ultimately leading to the greatest possible good and the magnification of His glory. Drawing from theological traditions like Ambrose's "O Felix Culpa" and insights from thinkers like Jonathan Edwards, the message emphasizes that God's sovereignty and unchanging goodness allow Him to utilize even tragic events, such as the fall, to fulfill His redemptive purpose through the atoning work of Jesus Christ, culminating in a new heaven and earth where God dwells with humanity and eliminates suffering forever.

  • A Sermon for the Self-Deceived - Part 4
The sermon contrasts the false security of religious pedigree with the necessity of a transformed heart, using Jonathan Edwards' descendant Aaron Burr as an illustration that heritage cannot save. Jesus confronts religious leaders in John 8, revealing that their rejection of Him proves they are children of Satan rather than Abraham. The preacher identifies five character traits of those belonging to the devil: opposing the Messiah's agenda, hating truth-tellers, failing to love Jesus, lacking spiritual ability to respond, and embracing lies over authority. These negative traits serve as a diagnostic tool for self-deception, highlighting that external religiosity masks an internal condition hostile to God. Ultimately, the message offers hope by contrasting these with the marks of true believers who are born again, able to hear God's word, and adopted as children of God through Christ's work on the cross.

  • Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God
AI generated Summary: The sermon underscores the precariousness of human existence, emphasizing that unconverted individuals are held over the abyss of hell by the mere, unmerited pleasure of an angry God. Drawing from Deuteronomy, it argues that divine wrath is immediate, inescapable, and intensified by the absence of faith, highlighting the utter dependence on God's sovereign will for preservation and warning against self-deception regarding one's safety. The message aims to awaken listeners to their spiritual peril, urging them to embrace the opportunity for salvation before facing eternal condemnation, as the present season of grace is fleeting and the consequences of rejecting Christ are dire.

  • The Hope of Glory
"Hope," - a word that is casually used in our society has a far more profound and eternal meaning when seen through a biblical lens. First we appreciate the weight of our sin before God. Then we can be all the more grateful for how great a salvation we receive through Christ alone. This is the hope that will not disappoint. Beyond the link, Jim Snyder's 09-04-2022 Sunday message awaits.

  • 1108 Fearfully & Wonderfully Made, the Ear Pt-12
Here we open with Jonathan Edward's writing of what God had revealed to him of His glory. Then we continue the study of our miraculous ears as we move into such intricacy and complexity that it is hard to believe that all the sub-microscopic materials in our bodies came from only two cells that divided and changed until they became over 200 different types of material appearing in the exact right places and at the right time and in the right amount and connected to the right cell next to it. In Jonathan Edward's short writing on the glory of God we should begin to wonder why there is such a void on this all important subject. We know that everything we do as believers, including eating and drinking is to be done to the glory of God. So where are the messages that instruct us how to do it? If God asked us to write down all we do for His glory the list would almost certainly be about what we have done for Him and for others. This may help build churches by encouraging members to lay up treasures but it has nothing to do with glorifying God. It would however glorify those who wrote the list. The glory of God existed before us and always will, it's not about us.

  • 2022 A New Start
Usually in early January, most years I like to give a New Year's Sermon. This is my first opportunity to do this now in 2022 and I hope this message will be helpful to you as we start off the New Year. A lot of people in Australia make New Years resolutions at the start of each year. A new Year is a good place to make a new start. Someone said: "A new year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other". You may not be into New Years Resolutions, but I do think it is good to set goals for the year. Now there was a young man in history that set specific goals for his life. His name was Jonathan Edwards. Jonathan Edwards became an American Pastor and missionary in the 1700's. You might have heard of his most famous sermon. "It was called Sinners in the hands of an angry God." As a Teenager Johnathan Edwards made 70 Godly Resolutions for his life. He also made a resolution to re read his 70 resolutions at least once a week. Now did you know that there were people in the Bible that set goals. Joshua in the Old Testament set goals for serving the Lord. Joshua was determined that He and His Household would serve the Lord. Josh 24:15 … choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Daniel as a young man set goals for Godliness. He made sure that he did not compromise with the World. (Daniel Chaps 1 & 6)

  • The Future General Judgment of Works
Greetings Brethren, Today we examine one of the most frightful passages of all of Scripture. In Revelation 20 we read of what is commonly called The Great White Throne Judgment. This passage of Scripture toward the end of the biblical record declares that there will be a future event in which God will judge every individual of the human race; the outcome will be either entrance into eternal life or consignment into everlasting hell. The seriousness of the matter is staggering, and should lead all people who read it or hear of it to search their souls in order to assess their standing before God and to live in preparation for that day. I have also attached at the end several pages of the words of Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) which are his applications of his message on the final judgment. Moreover, as a bonus, I have attached this entire sermon of Jonathan Edwards in a Word file along with our own sermon notes.
