Preached at Northampton on the Lord's day, June 26, 1748, on the death of the Honorable John Stoddard, Esq., often a member of his Majesty's council, for many years chief justice of the court of Common Pleas for the county of Hampshire, judge of the probate of wills, and chief colonel of the regiment, &c, who died at Boston, June 19, 1748 in the 67th hear of his age. • Christ: The Example of Ministers
Preached at Portsmouth, at the ordination of the Rev. Mr. Job Strong, June 28, 1749. As is noted above, this is a sermon preached at the ordination of the Rev. Job Strong. Edwards calls on those who are called/elected and engaged in the ministry (service) of the Lord Jesus Christ, to imitate Him. Matthew 20:28, Mark 10:35 Mt 20:28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. Mr 10:45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. Ministers, whether they are the pastor of a church or even a Christian musician, are to imitate the Lord Jesus Christ. Also, toward the end of the sermon, Edwards talks about providing for the pastors of the Church. There are many, who have taken this command, as a license to make merchandise of countless congregations. Without digressing into a sermon on tithing; I point out to you all, that Edwards made no mention of the Levitical tithe. He certainly didn't commission ministers to life like secular rock stars, or to create large empires that utilize tax-breaks or tax exempt status (501C3) to enrich themselves with the dreaded mammon. Remember, this message was preached in 1743. Any careful study of Colonial America will easily show that ministers were not wealthy by today's standards. DO NOT take this sermon as a license to rob widows and orphans. DAL

  • Angels & Demons 2, Pastor Jim Dodson, Reformed Presbyterian, Covenanter, Scholar
See covenanter.org for many free Reformation resources. Puritan Hard Drive at http://ow.ly/fPY4o If you love the Bible, then you may well be Reformed. If you think of yourself as Reformed, but you have seldom or have never read older Reformed literature, prepare to be challenged. The Puritan Hard Drive provides primary sources and depth of theological and spiritual insight which is lacking in much of what is passed off as genuine Reformed theology. If you think of yourself as conservative, the older Puritan and Reformed authors will help you sort reality from myth in your quest to be truly Reformed. There are more solid resources for less money here than anywhere else. I highly recommend you take responsibility for your soul and spend a few shekels for this cup of cold water in the midst of the modern religious desert. - Pastor Jim Dodson, Reformed Presbyterian (Covenanter) Scholar, http://www.covenanter.org/ If you want to understand Reformed theology (i.e., the whole counsel of God) the Puritan Hard Drive is unsurpassed, outside the Bible itself. The First and Second Reformations gave us the most faithful Scriptural teaching and preaching since the time of the Apostles, and there is no other resource, outside Scripture itself, where you can find so much of God's truth as in the Puritan Hard Drive (http://ow.ly/fPY4o). May the Lord continue to use this most profitable tool to promote a Third Reformation that encompasses the whole world (Isaiah 2:2-4)! - Pastor Greg Price (Covenanted Presbyterian Pastor, Author, Theologian, etc.) Free resources by Greg Price at http://ow.ly/uHHAl More Free Reformed Resources http://ow.ly/vXqTJ

Pastor Boyett covers the topic of Biblical evangelism in this lecture. The word "biblical" is defined as: "Of, related to, or contained in the Bible." For the definition of the word "evangelism," - According to the New Testament, evangelism is just preaching the gospel, the evangel. It is a work of communication in which Christians make themselves mouthpieces for God's message of mercy to sinners. Anyone who faithfully delivers that message, under whatever circumstances, in a large meeting, in a small meeting, from a pulpit, or in a private conversation, is evangelizing. Since the divine message finds its climax in a plea from the Creator to a rebel world to turn and put faith in Christ, the delivering of it involves the summoning of one's hearers to conversion. The definition of "biblical evangelism" is as follows: The communication, in either spoken (Romans 10:14-17; 1 Corinthians 9:16) or written (1 John 5:13) form, of the law of God (Exodus 20:1-17; Romans 2:12-24; 3:19-20; 1 Timothy 1:8),
