Our Pastor, Dr. Lee Atkinson, begins by referring to the millennia-long thirst and quest to see and know God which in all cases - except one - has resulted in the monstrosities of idol worship. Even Abraham and Moses had to be satisfied with only partial revelations of God. Finally, "in the fullness of time" God gave us a complete revelation of Himself, first in swaddling bands and later through the tearing of the Temple veil.

Sermon Text: 1 Peter 3:18 Title: "Christ Suffered"

Pastor Lee Atkinson refers to Zechariah 9:9 and reminds us that King David's sons rode on donkeys when they were at peace. Jesus did not ride into Jerusalem on a prancing steed brandishing a sword. In John 12:23 and 24 Jesus moves from the "triumphal" entry to the necessity of His death. Isaiah said that the Messiah must suffer before He would reign (Isaiah 53:10-12). Jesus had already lived a humble life, but He knew that humiliation and suffering must precede glory (Hebrews 2:9-10).

Dr. Lee Atkinson declares that we are Christlike in proportion to our humility. If we do not implement the truths of humility, our spiritual growth will have a very low ceiling. After listing some of the symptoms of pride, Pastor walks us through many of our Savior's teachings on humility in Matthew's Gospel. "Lord, lead us lower."
