  • The Analogy of Faith
One Scriptural principle of great importance in the work of translation is comparing Scripture with Scripture in order to arrive at an accurate understanding and translation of a verse. A translation which, though possible on mere technical grounds, is nevertheless at odds with the teaching of the rest of Scripture is not admissible. Since 'all scripture is given by inspiration of God' (2 Timothy 3.16) and is a revelation of the mind of God, no part of Scripture can be rightly interpreted if it contradicts the clear testimony of other parts. Because the Lord speaks with one voice and is always consistent with Himself, the Scripture must be a coherent whole. Thus, the principle to be applied in the work of interpretation and translation is that Scripture must be interpreted by Scripture. • New & Old, and Never & Forever
Today we come to our second installment of Provoke the Pastor and the questions we'll be focusing on are primarily those of hermeneutics or Bible interpretation. We've repeatedly stated the importance of a consistent biblical hermeneutic which is able to be applied to every passage of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation. A methodology which does not need altered no matter which text of Scripture, which type or genre of Scripture, and which will always result in a consistent understanding of God's intended meaning to His church. New: I'm sure you must have answered this question before, but here goes again. In the Book of John 3:5 Jesus says, "Truly, truly, I say to you , unless one is born of water and the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." Does this say that Baptism is necessary for salvation? Old: My question is on the meaning of "permanent statute" in Leviticus 16:29 and 34. Using the hermeneutical rule of understanding the meaning of Scripture the way the audience would understand it, these verses seem to indicate that the annual day of atonement was prescribed for Israel to be perpetual. How should we understand these verses? Never: It's hard at times to tell in the Old Testament, who Jehovah or Yahweh is - Father or Son. With Lord = usually Son. With LORD = mostly Father. Does it really matter in most cases? Forever: A question arose during our discussion of Genesis as to the eternality of the Abrahamic Covenant.

  • Before You Judge the Translation
The sermon concludes a series on the reliability of Scripture by addressing the common misconception that the Bible is too difficult for ordinary believers to understand. It introduces the theological concept of perspicuity, arguing that God's revelation is sufficiently clear for salvation and daily obedience despite some complex passages. By examining the preface of the King James translators and biblical examples of translation refinement, the message affirms that multiple faithful translations serve to clarify rather than obscure God's truth. The preacher emphasizes that while not every verse is equally easy, the core doctrines are manifest, urging believers to study with humility and confidence. Ultimately, the goal of understanding Scripture is not intellectual debate but faithful obedience to God's commands.

  • Pt 7, Revelation 2:12-17, The Church at Pergamos
In Part 7 of the Revelation Unraveled series, Pastor Byron Chesney examines Christ's message to the church at Pergamos in Revelation 2:12–17. Although this church remained faithful to the name of Christ while living in a stronghold of spiritual darkness, it had begun tolerating false doctrine and sinful compromise within its fellowship. This message warns that a church can stand against persecution from the outside while being weakened by compromise on the inside, and calls believers to hold fast the faith, reject error, and repent whenever God's Word exposes sin.

  • 3 How to Read the Signs of the End – Mark 13:5-8
What does Jesus want Christians to think when wars, earthquakes, famines, persecution, and false teachers dominate the headlines? In Mark 13:5-8, Jesus gives His disciples a crucial warning: "Watch out that no one deceives you," and "do not be alarmed." He describes a period called the "beginning of pains"—a time when His followers will face deception, disasters, and persecution while continuing the mission of preaching the gospel to the nations. In this study of Mark 13:5-8, we examine what Jesus meant by the beginning of pains and whether these events point to the destruction of Jerusalem, the Second Coming, or an unfolding prophetic process that began in the first century and continues until Christ returns.
