This sermon addresses the common struggle of believers who lack assurance of their salvation, using a case study to explore the root causes of such doubt. It distinguishes between the fruit of assurance and the root issues of sin and distorted views of God, emphasizing that while Christians wrestle with besetting sins, they do not willfully practice them. The teaching highlights the importance of viewing God through the lens of His steadfast love and mercy rather than solely through His justice and wrath, correcting a legalistic perspective that hinders faith. By referencing Hebrews 12 and 1 John, the message encourages believers to focus on Christ's righteousness and the work of the Holy Spirit rather than their own performance. The sermon concludes with practical steps for spiritual growth, including daily Bible engagement and reliance on the local church community to foster a secure identity in Christ.

What is true fellowship and how does it produce joy?

This sermon examines the doctrine of the Trinity through specific passages in the book of Isaiah, identifying the distinct roles and relationships of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The analysis begins with Isaiah 42, where the Father is presented as the commissioner who delights in the Son, the Servant, who is empowered by the Holy Spirit to bring gentle justice to the Gentiles. The teaching continues with Isaiah 48, exploring the debate over whether the Father or the Son is the speaker, while emphasizing the unity of the divine persons in the sending of the Messiah. Finally, the sermon introduces Isaiah 61 alongside Luke 4, highlighting the anointing of Christ by the Spirit to preach good tidings and bind up the brokenhearted. Throughout the discussion, the preacher emphasizes that the three persons of the Trinity are united in purpose and authority, rather than operating in a hierarchy of subordination, providing a cohesive Old Testament foundation for understanding the triune nature of God.
