Sermon: The Gospel According to Abraham and David Sermon Text: Romans 4:1-8 Series: The Power of God for Salvation (Romans) This sermon expounds on the doctrine of justification by faith alone, using Abraham and David as primary Old Testament examples. It explains that righteousness is imputed to believers as a free gift of grace, not earned through works or merit. The preacher emphasizes that God does not keep a record of sins for those in Christ but covers them completely through His blood. This theological truth liberates Christians from the burden of trying to earn God's favor and encourages them to live with confidence in their secure standing before Him.

  • 16 The Center of the Gospel
Sermon: The Center of the Gospel Sermon Text: Romans 3:21-31 Series: The Power of God for Salvation (Romans) The sermon expounds on the doctrine of justification by faith alone, emphasizing that human efforts and works cannot satisfy a holy God's demand for absolute perfection. It highlights the universal sinfulness of humanity and the necessity of trusting solely in the redemptive work and propitiation of Jesus Christ to escape divine wrath. The preacher contrasts the futility of self-righteousness with the relief found in receiving righteousness as a gift of grace through faith. Furthermore, the message explains that while justification is not based on works, it produces good works and joyful obedience in the believer's life as a response to God's mercy. Ultimately, the text calls listeners to abandon reliance on their own merit and rest completely in Christ's finished work for salvation.

The sermon emphasizes the absolute supremacy of Jesus Christ as the ultimate revelation of God, urging listeners to respond with active faith rather than mere intellectual assent. It distinguishes between true believers, those intellectually convinced but not born again, and outright unbelievers, warning against the spiritual danger of drifting away from Christ due to worldly distractions. The preacher highlights three key reasons to heed the Gospel: God's confirmation of Jesus through miracles, His character as the Savior of sinners, and the testimony of Scripture. Central to the message is the call to anchor one's life in Jesus alone, rejecting reliance on institutions or doctrines in favor of a personal, enduring relationship with Him. Ultimately, the text asserts that neglecting this great salvation leads to judgment, while trusting in Christ offers eternal deliverance.
