  • Discipline Yourself for Godliness - 6/7/26
Does godliness just happen? Shouldn't we just "Let go, and let God?" How do we avoid "legalism" while fulfilling the biblical mandate to "make every effort…" How do we understand the doctrines of grace as they apply, not merely to our justification, but also to our sanctification? How can we be truly godly? In this 9-week Adult Sunday School course, we will explore Paul's admonition in 1 Timothy 4:7 for Timothy to "discipline (train) himself for godliness." We will be looking at the role of spiritual disciplines as practiced by the church throughout its history that have shaped the lives of the godly. The goal is to learn the paths of discipline and the "habits of grace" unto which godliness is the end that God might be glorified, honored, and enjoyed among us. Severn Run Evangelical Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), devoted to the pursuit of Scripture, prayer, fellowship, and worship as we seek to faithfully reach our community for Christ.

  • 11. Curse of the Law
Why could the old covenant never secure God's blessing for sinners? A: Because the old covenant law can only condemn lawbreakers, but Christ bore its curse so that all who believe receive Abraham's promised blessing by faith.

  • Adventure Awaits
The sermon centers on the divine purpose of marriage as a sacred covenant designed by God to reflect Christ's love for the Church and to bring Him glory, grounded in Revelation 4:11 and 1 Corinthians 10:31. It emphasizes that marriage is not merely a personal or romantic endeavor but a spiritual journey of sanctification—where two sinners grow in holiness through mutual accountability, grace, and the transformative work of the Holy Spirit. The preacher calls couples to maintain an outward focus, bearing spiritual fruit, serving others, and surrendering their marriage entirely to God's will, trusting that His process of conforming them to Christ's image is both necessary and purposeful. By reframing marriage within the broader biblical narrative of justification, sanctification, and glorification, the message invites believers to embrace the challenges of the present as part of a greater, eternal purpose, finding joy and meaning in the daily commitment to please God together.

  • 47 The Morning Devotional - Psalm 68:1-3
The Morning Devotional Season 11 | Edition 47 June 1, 2026 Psalm 68:1-3 This sermon centers on Psalm 68:1–3, drawing a stark contrast between the ultimate fate of God's enemies and the enduring joy of the righteous. It emphasizes that while the wicked—symbolized by melting wax and dissipating smoke—will perish before the holy and powerful God, the righteous, who are made right through Christ's imputed righteousness, will rejoice with jubilant, unshaken joy. The preacher underscores the reality of spiritual warfare, highlighting that believers are pilgrims in a hostile world, opposed by both the ungodly system and Satan, yet assured of divine victory. Rooted in the doctrine of justification by faith alone, the message calls Christians to find hope and strength in Christ, who is their ultimate Captain and the source of their security. The tone is both pastoral and convicting, reminding listeners of their identity in Christ while urging steadfast faith amid present trials.

  • In every Nation - acceptance with God
Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But **in every nation** he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. (Acts 10:34-35) *1/ In every nation - By Prophecy, example and fulfilment. 2/ Our great need - Acceptance with God. 3/ The cause of our acceptance. 4/ The fruit of our acceptance.* **Sermon Summary:** The sermon centers on Acts 10:34–35, emphasizing that God is no respecter of persons and accepts all who fear Him and do righteousness, a truth rooted in divine prophecy, fulfilled in the inclusion of Gentiles like Cornelius, and demonstrated through the Holy Spirit's outpouring on them. It underscores the necessity of spiritual acceptance with God, which is not earned by human effort, prayer, or righteousness, but solely through faith in Christ's atoning work, as revealed in the preached gospel. The sermon distinguishes between the fruit of salvation—such as godly fear and righteous living—and the ground of acceptance, which is Christ alone, exalted as the sole basis of justification. It calls believers to recognize the providential hand of God in uniting prepared hearts with prepared messengers, and to rejoice in the global reach of the gospel, where the simple proclamation of Christ's death and resurrection brings true conversion and lasting fruit in every nation.
