Maurice Collins came from the streets of Chicago. If every allegation about The Lord's Ranch were proven to be true, his life in Chicago would still be more dangerous. Regardless, Maurice went to The Lord's Ranch when he was 14 and the pain has followed him into his late 30s. He spent three years there until he graduated.
While he was a resident, Maurice claims a staff member potentially broke, fractured, or dislocated his shoulder in front of every resident in his unit. At the time, Maurice said he wasn't being a threat to himself or others--which would make it illegal to do. This kind of complaint was common from former residents.
Collins said they refused to take him to the hospital or to even see an onsite nurse. Maurice made a homemade sling out of a shirt for his arm when the staff at The Ranch refused to provide him with any medical assistance. He remembers crying himself to sleep from the agony and crying on his way to church the next day. It was three months before he could use it properly again, he experienced agony for weeks without any medical care. He was not given a reason.
