Section 23 Podcast

Joe, Randy, and Alex are all together for the first time in a while.  The Yankees closer is on the IL, but their MVP candidate is chasing down a home run record.  The Mariners just signed their rookie of the year candidate to a historical long-term contract.  And the machine for the Cardinals is knocking on the door of the 700 club.

The Reds on the other hand have a roster of misfits currently with all the injuries.  Which ones do they see having a future with the team next season?

Joe and Alex preview the biggest college football game of the weekend and give their predictions.

The show starts with Randy and Alex discussing some of the bigger stories around baseball the past week.  Freddie Freeman made his return to Atlanta in dramatic fashion, Bryce Harper injures his thumb, and possibly the biggest baseball brawl we have seen occurred between the Angels and Mariners and a few former Reds were the center of attention of the whole thing.  The Reds haven't given the guys much to talk about but the guys give their thoughts on the Reds recent stretch of games and look to what exactly the future might hold for this team.

We have seen 2 managers fired so far in June.  Is there a third one that is on the hot seat?  The Yankees are surging as the best team in baseball and the Reds are no longer the worst team.  You have to give credit to the starting rotation and the guys that are stepping up while others are on the Injured List.

The Reds pulled out a few wins over the last week so the guys talk about some of the key contributors to their success while star players remain out of the lineup.  Luis Castillo returned from injury and looked like the ace of the pitching staff.  Mike Moustakas has also been great at the dish since returning from his injury a couple weeks ago.  Colin Moran and Tyler Stephenson put their names in the ballot for NL Player of the Week with the success they have had too.  They guys also talk about Dusty Baker's 2000th career win and debate if the Reds made the right move letting him go.  Finally, if this last week of games hasn't convinced you to visit GABP this summer, the guys provide their top 10 places of "where you're gonna go" to fill your entertainment needs.

There's no other way to describe it.  The start to the Reds season has been horrific.  The guys talk about some of the many pain points from the past week including David Bell, the starting pitching, and the training staff.  No one a part of the baseball operations team should feel safe about their future.  They guys also talk about some history that was made around the league including Clayton Kershaw and the Mets hot start.

The Reds losing ways continue and there are some concerns with the starting pitchers.  Hunter Greene's velocity was down, Tyler Mahle can't get past the 5th inning, Reiver Sanmartin struggles to get through a lineup more than once.  Not much is going the Reds way.  And to make things worse, they still can't hit.  Who is the new team you should be paying attention to this season?  Miguel Cabrera gets hit number 3000, Angel Hernandez is the reason RoboUmps are being discussed, and so much more!

This week the guys revisit the Nick Castellanos situation after Scott Boras stated the interest in Nick rejoining the Reds in the offseason.  In LA the Reds were decimated by injuries but the bright spot of the series was Hunter Greene again.  They discuss their thoughts on the Apple TV broadcast and Randy attempts to do with a live looking at Miguel Cabrera's 3000th hit.  In San Diego, Tommy Pham was welcomed with boos from the opposing fans and answered in a big way.  And another injury was sustained after a very controversial play at home plate.  Finally, they look ahead at the upcoming series to see where they might get their next win.
