Earlier this month, the people of Sweden – a nation long misruled by the left – repudiated their elites and voted for a government dominated by the right’s Swedish Democrats. Yesterday, a similar political earthquake brought to power in Italy a right-wing coalition led by a Thatcherhesque Giorgia Meloni.

The implications of such tectonic shifts for these two countries remain to be seen. But the message to the European Union and other globalists seems clear: National sovereignty and accountable government that protects it from distant bureaucrats and illegal immigrants now enjoy unprecedented popular support.

For us, the question is: To what extent are such sentiments next going to dominate our elections this fall? Clearly, the United States is in at least as urgent a need of a course-correction as Europe. And we must pray that America will secure a mandate for it, as well.

Are we sleepwalking toward catastrophe? Preoccupied with this fall’s election, or simply the day-to-day challenges of making ends meet in increasingly difficult economic circumstances, most Americans are missing some very ominous indicators of serious trouble ahead.

So, it would seem are our intelligence services and national security agencies – perhaps because they’re focused, instead, on Joe Biden’s political opposition, now officially designated  “enemies of the state.”

Historically, however, our nation would be on high-alert if any of the following were occurring – let alone, as now, all of them: The Kremlin is mobilizing its military reserves and explicitly threatening nuclear war; Communist China has massively increased its military capabilities and is adopting a war-footing; North Korea has publicly embraced preemptive nuclear strikes; and Iran will have the Bomb at any moment.

Sorry to disturb, but we ignore such developments at our extreme peril.

In President Biden’s speech to the United Nations yesterday, he declared U.S. support for a long list of problematic leftist approaches to, among other things: climate change, food insecurity, human rights, international peace and the LGTBQ agenda.

In the mix, he endorsed a particularly dubious idea: Adding more nations as veto-wielding permanent members of the UN Security Council. The Left has long promoted this idea as not only as a way to elevate the stature of their favorite Third World countries in various regions, but to diminish the clout of existing Western members, including the United States.

Mr. Biden implicitly condemned Russia’s use of its Security Council veto, yet favors giving that power to more states. The practical effect would be to eliminate whatever limited utility the Council still has, rendering it little more than an expensive, but utterly irrelevant, debating society.

It’s obvious that Joe Biden is not actually performing the duties of the President of the United States. His calendar scarcely has anything on it. He’s mostly off-duty in Delaware or Camp David. And even when he’s nominally working, he’s clearly doing the bidding of unidentified others who are actually making the decisions.

This is a national disgrace and a grievous departure from the principle of representative and accountable governance that is at the heart of our constitutional republic.

Now, it has become a real national security threat.

On four separate occasions, Joe Biden has declared that the United States would defend Taiwan if it were attacked by Communist China. All four times, he was swiftly countermanded, again by unnamed White House officials.

Such behavior emboldens our enemies and intensifies the danger of an avoidable war. It must stop now.

Texas Rep. Brian Babin warned yesterday that Communist China and Mexican drug cartels are waging “chemical warfare on the United States of America and there should be some real accountability for both of those entities.”

Their weapon of choice is fentanyl, a medical drug China manufactures that is so powerful even tiny quantities consumed unwittingly can be deadly. The CCP uses, among other techniques, narco-terrorist gangs that control our southern border to smuggle it here, killing some 100,000 narcotics users and other Americans yearly.

Beijing has repeatedly promised to stop this practice – something it could easily do given China’s Orwellian surveillance state. But it hasn’t. And now there are reports fentanyl-laced candy is headed our way, potentially putting at risk our young children, too.

The Chinese Communists are at war with America. It’s past time we make it cost them.

The late, great New York Times columnist and pundit William Safire once observed, correctly, that Hillary Clinton is a “congenital liar.” Turns out Joe Biden is similarly afflicted.

A notorious plagiarist, Biden has been reflexively untruthful about virtually everything – including his determination to unite America, the state of our economy, “MAGA Republicans” being “enemies of the state,” and his insistence that the Chinese Communists “are not bad folks.”

While Joe Biden and his friends frequently accuse others of engaging in “the Big Lie” – the practice of dissembling so colossally and repeatedly that people believe it – his own, serial dissembling qualifies him as the Big Liar.

The latest example came on Sunday’s “60 Minutes,” during which President Biden declared, “There’s not a single thing that I’ve observed at all that would affect me or the United States relative to my son Hunter.” Honestly?

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has the Left in a lather for facilitating the movement of illegal aliens to a sanctuary community. He’s been accused of racism, cruelly deceiving and exploiting innocent “migrants,” pulling an inhumane political “stunt” and even of being “a Nazi.”

Politicized prosecutors in Massachusetts and Washington are reportedly menacingly investigating the free flights he sponsored to transfer a couple dozen mostly Venezuelans to Martha’s Vineyard.

Gov. DeSantis is a hero, however, to countless Americans horrified by Team Biden’s destruction of our southern border and the truly humanitarian, economic, societal and national security disasters it has wrought.

Hopefully, the country will decide in November to hold accountable those allowing cartels to traffic millions here illegally and then flying or bussing many of them with little, if any, warning – often in the dark of night – to non-sanctuary communities across the country.

Today, the dictators of Communist China and Russia are holding their first face-to-face meeting since February. If past experience is any guide, no good will come of it.

At the last such meeting, Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin rolled out with great fanfare their countries’ so-called “no limits” partnership. What they did not announce, but apparently finalized, was an agreement that the Chinese Communist Party would support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, once Beijing’s Genocide Games were finished.

The question is: Will the two tyrants in the course of today’s rendezvous in Uzbekistan now finalize plans for Russia to reciprocate by supporting the CCP’s invasion of Taiwan once it completes a Party Congress next month at which Xi is expected to get a third term? And if so, will they agree to attack as well our assets, personnel and territory?

The World Health Organization is preparing to spring on us, not one, but two, different initiatives aimed at enormously expanding the power of that deeply problematic international agency. It just went through the motions of asking for public comments. Here are the gist of mine:

Given the WHO’s record of doing the Chinese Communist Party’s bidding by insisting on ineffective masks, devastating lockdowns, inadequately tested and dangerous “vaccines” and mandate-enforcing passports, it would be utterly insane to increase that agency’s authority – specifically to tell us what is a “public health crisis of international concern” and how we must respond.

A million of us have perished already. Must more needlessly die?

The American people and their representatives in the U.S. Senate must oppose any such surrender of our national sovereignty and/or further compromise of American public health. The WHO should not go there. And we certainly must not.

The Biden administration’s wrecking operation with respect to U.S. energy security has reduced our strategic petroleum reserve to its lowest level in almost forty years. Such sales of oil meant for emergency use only – including some to our mortal enemy, the Chinese Communist Party – has significantly increased our vulnerability in case of, for example, a war.  

Worse yet, at the same time, the nation most likely to precipitate such a conflict, namely Communist China, has been systematically hoarding oil, natural gas and coal, as well as food, rare earth minerals, fertilizers and other materials.  

The CCP appears to be putting its nation on a war-footing. And Biden’s irresponsible conduct with respect to our strategic reserve and virtually every other aspect of energy policy appears to be a betrayal of America’s national security that can only conduce to a Chinese victory.
