This is a recording of a workshop hosted by Solidarity Sundays at the 2026 Victoria Anarchist Book fair. The workshop discussed questions such as: what is mutual aid and how can we make it a part of our daily lives? What does it mean to start a mutual aid collective? What does it mean to be a part of a mutual aid collective? How does a mutual aid collective sustain itself? How can we make anti-capitalism a meaningful part of our lives and communities?

Solidarity Sundays is a non-hierarchical pan-leftist mutual aid collective based in the Okanagan. They have spent the last few years focused on fostering class solidarity and creating a community that takes care of each other. Follow them on IG and Patreon.

The Free Fair is an extension of Free Store events originally organized by the Saint John Community Coalition. The Free Store served as a model for operating a more just society. It is based on the principles of mutual aid, where people cooperate to meet the needs of fellow community members. At the last Free Fair event community members provided services such as hair cuts, counseling, tax preparation, and educational services such as workshops on unions, housing, and food security. The space also turns into a community hangout with art, games and music. The Fruits Collective is a group of queer, trans, and allied softball players. The Collective was created to build community, have fun, and resist transphobia in organised sport. Harland Bird is one of the co-founders of the Victoria Tenants Union, a tenant-led, democratic movement organizing around the idea that good quality, affordable, accessible, and secure housing is a human right and should not be a commodity or an investment for the purpose of profit. In Pizza Before We Die, Gaza resident Hassan Kanafani writes about his experience on the frontlines of the Israeli bombardment of Gaza. The book was written with Victoria’s own award-winning author and musician Yasuko Thanh. This was recorded on May 9, 2026, at the Masjid Al-Iman mosque in Victoria, where Yasuko gave a live reading of excerpts from the book. Buy it here, and follow Yasuko on IG.

Amber Lowry is the sister of Prairieland political prisoner Savannah Batten, who was recently convicted along with 13 other people in U.S. Federal Court of "providing material support for terrorism," for holding a noise demonstration outside an ICE detention facility in Texas in 2025.
