Roberta was an ardent Christian for most of her life. Then when she found that the folks that we used to think were dead were consistently telling us that the Jesus of the Gospels is right, but the religion founded in his name is not, she began what became decades of seeking reality even far beyond the afterlife evidence. She has had some painful things to say in the past about the religion that she still loves. Now she will talk about the ways in which Christianity soon likely will be reformed so it can be a leader in proclaiming what is true.

Forty years ago, Icelandic researchers Erlendur Haraldsson and Karlis Osis conducted the first very large-scale study ever done of deathbed visions, a major category of afterlife evidence. Their important book,  At the Hour of Death (https://www.amazon.com/At-Hour-Death-Evidence-After/dp/0803893868), demonstrates pretty conclusively that the beautiful events surrounding death that so many of the dying describe are genuine and universal. This week Erlendur joins us all the way from Iceland to talk about what they learned then, and what it means for us today.

N. Riley Heagerty's Portraits from Beyond tells the fascinating story of Elizabeth and May Bangs, who were among the most prominent American physical mediums of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They are most famous today for their ability to make full-color portraits of the dead appear on blank canvases, a phenomenon called "precipitated spirit painting." All of this was possible at a time when mediums were able to develop to an extent that modern distractions seem to make almost impossible now.

His book, Overcoming the Fear of Death, outlines the four approaches that people take to thinking about death, and how we can overcome the kinds of fears that each approach tends to raise in us. His is a powerful approach to mastering our worst fears.

With the growing knowledge that human minds are eternal, hospice counselors and health care providers are starting to help patients take a happy approach to the death process and encouraging them to see death as the threshold to a greater life.
