Father's Day is coming this Sunday. I love celebrating this day!! I have been blessed with an amazing father who loved and cared for me all of my childhood and even now. I think that we don't talk as much as we should about the amazing roles of fathers and all that they do in our lives and our children's lives. While driving Gannon to school recently, he read this quote to me from a talk by Ryan K Olsen, The Answer is Jesus, October 2022

The Savior is the Master of simplicity.” That got me thinking about how much satan wants to complicate things and confuse us. The Savior is SIMPLE. He works through "small and simple" ways. Caroline grew up with a father as a doctor and a mother who was a NICU nurse. During 3rd, 4th and 5th grade Caroline and her 2 siblings lived in Africa in a boarding school as their parents cared for the people of Africa. In high school Caroline heard about a baby who had a baboon heart transplanted and that experience in-planted in her heart the desire to be a NICU nurse too. In 1994 Caroline started her nursing career at Loma Linda Hospital in California. Today she is a NICU transport nurse. Dallin grew up in California and planned his whole life to serve a full-time missionary. His time arrived during 2020 as Covid 19 covered the earth. Dallin received a call to Toronto Canada. With all the restrictions in place the day he was set apart to be a full time mission, he was re-assigned to Salt Lake City, Utah. For 3 weeks, he was at the home MTC in California. It was a big shift from the life he had before being set apart. Dallin hadn't realized the struggle he was facing and going to face with all the changes. Upon arriving in Utah, missionary life was not as he had dreamed of as a little boy. Staying at their apartments without much human contact and no proselyting. After 2 months Dallin felt that he was no longer going to stay in the SLC mission and decided to head back home to California to be a service missionary. The next 20 months were a rollercoaster of growth and faith for Dallin. So many things are taking place all over the world but we need not fear. God is in charge and all of these things have been prophesied about for many years. While reading my scriptures, I saw 4 passages in 3 Nephi very differently than I had in the past. Gadianton robbers had come in the land wanting to destroy the Nephites. Gratefully the Nephities had listened to their leaders and gathered together in one. They also gathered together their flocks, herds, provisions and flocks in one place preparing for a future battle with the armies of robbers. We too might feel the evil in the world coming out of the mountains, wilderness and secret places creeping into our homes and lives, but all these things have been prophesied for many many years and if we are prepared we shall not fear.

Sara grew up in the Pacific NW in a family of all boys. She considered herself a tomboy and enjoyed the outdoors and sports. While attending BYU, she met Nate and eventually married. Their first child was a honeymoon baby who arrived the day before Sara was to walk at her graduation. Sara had decided at a young age that she wanted to stay home and raise her children and have a good size family. As the years passed, Sara and Nate welcomed 7 children. She continued to follow promptings throughout their lives that weren't always the easy paths. Then Sara felt a prompting to have another baby. This would make 8 children. As the pregnancy went on, Sara learned that their little baby Charity had Down Syndrome. “Children are highly vulnerable. They have little or no power to protect or provide for themselves and little influence on so much that is vital to their well-being. Children need others to speak for them, and they need decision makers who put their well-being ahead of selfish adult interests.”
