Today I’m talking with Boulder, Colorado physical therapist and eating disorder survivor Sarah Ceschin. Sarah and I were connected with a friend of a friend who thought we’d be a great fit and they were right.
Sarah’s perspective on movement and PT aligns very much with mine but our conversation goes much deeper than this.
Boulder, CO is a city where nearly everyone is active in multiple outdoor sports-and we have a really fascinating conversation around how that fits in with exercise culture and some of the underlying issues that this environment creates.
Sarah is an eating disorder survivor and this has really impacted her approach to treatment in a way that she looks at her patients as whole people rather than just a painful knee or shoulder.
We talk through much of Sarah’s history with dieting and exercise, which was really rooted in her need to exercise as a punishment and a way to earn food. This experience has informed her work as a PT in terms of helping people reconnect to their bodies in a compassionate way.
Sarah also shares some of the tools she used during her eating disorder recovery which resonate so strongly with the way I approach nutrition coaching.
And we both talk about our experiences gaining weight as part of the process of becoming fully reconnected to our bodies and creating trust around food.
