I know...I keep coming back. But this time, it's for real. I will be taking a break in June. I needed to get this review out there though because I actually really enjoyed this book. How to Hold a Cockroach is a fantastic introductory book to the Buddhist style of self-help. It is a quick, simple read that poses some great points which make up the backbone of this subset of self-help books. I enjoyed it, and I think you will, too. Small note: I mention that you can get this book for free...but I have been unable to get the link to work...so I guess you can't anymore.

I felt that maybe I was too harsh on Heather Gay. So, I asked my good friend and great comedian, Jamie Bliss, to help me determine if I had incorrectly judged Heather. Jamie loves reality TV in general, and is devoutly watching the RHOSLC (Real Housewives of Salt Lake City) series, which I was surprised to find out is actually still going on. I guess Jamie is gearing up for another season. Turns out, I may have been dead on regarding Heather Gay. Check it out.

This episode features the incredibly bad book, Bad Mormon. Heather Gay is a reality TV star from Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. This memoir is terribly written, expresses twisted values, and exposes the "real" Heather Gay. This book should be called Bad Person. Any guesses on whether I liked this book?

This episode, I review Dan Harris's book, 10% Happier. I was very surprised by this book. I really had no idea what I was getting into with this one, but it turned out to be a great read. I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking to get into the mindfulness/meditation space. He deftly summarizes a lot of the major players' ideas in this book and does a good job of pointing out the good and the bad in their theories. Then, he puts them into practice and tells us about it.

This week, I listened to Jay Shetty read his book 8 Rules of Love. He came to my house, sat in my car, and followed me around everywhere reading away. Nah, it was an audiobook that I had playing on 1.75 speed. I thought the book was fine. Not my favorite, but useful. Have me follow you around while I tell you about it. Hello! This week, I return to the traditional format of egotistical excellence. It's just me! I read Jordan Petersen's 12 Rules for Life this last week. In short, I liked the book, though it is arguably much more about Jordan's philosophy than it is about self-help. So, depending on how you feel about Jordan Petersen, you may not agree with my assessment of the book. However, he does give some very useful advice but you have to dig to find it. And the rules themselves are actually quite useful.

Hey there. Thanks so much for listening! I listened to How to Win Friends and Influence People in the Digital Age, all for all of you this week. Overall, I thought this was a decent book. It provides some good advice, though largely backed by hunch and anecdotal evidence. It does feel right, on most points at least. There is a tinge of sociopath in there, but they do repeat to "be sincere," which counteracts our inner sociopath, I think. I am trying apply some of what I learned from this book, so text me! Yes, I gave out my number in this episode.
