Send in the clowns: Joker, Terrifier, and the Apprentice

Our hosts aren’t the only ones clowning around this week, as we watched Terrifier 3 overtake Joker: Folie a Deux with an unfortunately dramatic 2nd week drop, and saw The Apprentice join the market. While Joker may not have been the box office boost we hoped to see, we’re looking ahead to promising pre-sales for Smile 2, Gladiator 2, and Wicked so join us Behind the Screens to see how the rest of 2024’s slate is shaping up.

    Box Office Overview:

    • Terrifier 3 debuted at number 1 with $18.3M domestically and nearly $5M internationally. On a budget of only $2M, an opening weekend total of $23.1M makes Terrifier 3 likely to be the most profitable movie of the year.
    • The Wild Robot grossed another $13.5M domestically, keeping a strong momentum in its 3rd week.
    • Joker: Folie a Deux saw an unfortunate 81% drop in the domestic market with only $7M, making for the highest 2nd week drop of a comic book movie.
    • Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in its 6th week was only a hair behind, also with $7M in the domestic market, where its total has now passed $275M.
    • Piece by Piece, a lego documentary, debuted to $3.8M.
    • My Hero Academia the Movie: You’re Next debuted with just over $3M domestically.
    • And The Apprentice grossed $1.58M from 1740 screens.
