I knew when I reviewed Yamato I would have to deviate from form. I had concerns with the show being so new that some would take this episode as status quo – well, it might well be at this point… That aside, this episode is much longer than normal, so consider this a double-issue, celebratory, fifth episode! Doctor is from the SSAA Ass Backwards Anime Podcast. He and I have been doing projects together since the get-go. To quote a line from his website, ‘He was doing it before it was cool’. Doctor is a man of many talents, one of them being the Super Saiyan levels of editing he is capable of editing that mortal men and sound gods envy (I among them). Ask Doc about any show, he’s seen it – twice actually.

CJ Hitchcock has been a good friend back when I was getting my feet wet with audio. Our opinions didn’t always play nice (still don’t like Hellsnig Ultimate) but I think that makes our friendship stronger. Hitch and I have worked together before, and despite the changes at work, we always rose above the mess. I remember one of his first videos I watched. It was a review of Psychic Wars – And I can still recall every joke. Argue with him about comic books, like how Marvel is better than DC.

Colton comes to the party a little later than most, but fashionably so. Although we never worked together, I;m glad to have him on the show. I always prided myself on having read more manga than my friends who where mainly anime dominant, and then comes this guy with more manga under his belt than me on MyAnimeList. That’s ok, he still hasn’t seen Yu Yu Hakusho. Ask him about any manga, he’ll talk you into reading it, and also show you where to get it – legally of course.

Like Goku, if you thought this podcast was dead than you’re in for a surprise. I had to train for 100 years (more like two weeks) in order to be powerful enough. And when My laziness kicked in it felt like x300 Earth’s gravity!

However, let’s not forget what we came here for. One thing I failed to mention was the influence of Go Nagai’s Devilman on Toriyama. It is an easy sight when you consider his works like Cowa!, Go! Go! Ackman, and my favorite Sand Land, all have some sort of demonic/devilish main character. Although not as sexualized (though the tension is there) the violance is of a more stylized nature. Toriyama prefers more swooshing lines crossing large portions of the page, and does a masterful job of conveying motion.

Without a doubt, what changed him the most was DragonQuest. He’s never been the since ever since. I’m not sure for the better…
