God is speaking all the time. But we need to be on the right channels to hear him. One of the massive things he is saying to us comes from Jesus: “As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” Jesus is saying: “Live on mission with me!” Today Perry and Shawna welcome popular speaker, author, and college professor at Penn State: Dr. Heather Holleman to have a conversation about her new book: Sent: Living a Life that Leads Others to Jesus.
Living sent begins from a starting point of our identity as the Father’s loved child. So sharing Jesus flows from who we are rather than inviting us into something more to do. As a result, we live as sent people not out of guilt, shame, or a sense of duty. Sent people naturally enter into evangelism the same way they eat breakfast or walk down the street. It’s simply a part of who they are. So first we talk about living from a sent identity. Then we talk about how vital it is to use our own transformation story along with scripture as we share our faith.
Next, a 2019 Barna Group survey found that 47 percent of Christians believed it was wrong to share our faith, especially among millennials. It’s a conversation about seeing people as precious, not as projects. Then a conversation about using our home as a gospel outpost. What is that?? Turns out, it’s pretty sweet. And finally we share our big takeaways from the show including the story of Shawna’s friend Paula who chose not to take her life because three years before that, someone had told her: “God loves you!”
