As an adolescent addict/alcoholic, there can be a lot of confusion about our actions and a lack of accountability. Our immediate family and caretakers can be somewhat confused by our decisions. Those who begin early drinking and drugging careers may find life much more complicated than those who started much later. Never having acquired the essential skills that others seem to possess so naturally, the young addict and alcoholic resort to alternative ways to make a living, get a fix or get drunk. This can involve any number of circumstances, situations, and follies. All of which are either illegal, immoral, or both. These hard-earned skills don’t always go away once we put down the drink or drug. It’s not easy to recover under the lash of our past shame, either. But you can do it! We see it every day in the rooms of recovery.
