What an absolute pleasure it was having our dear friend and fellow makeup/SFX artist Phil Harrah on the pod! He came and shared so much joy and passion while letting us into his world a bit more, taking us through his journey as a Pro MUA! Phil has just came up on his one year anniversary of becoming a member of Iatse Local 798 hair and makeup union! But he’s been gracing many of our favorite movie and TV sets and working just as hard in Josh Turi’s FX shop, Designs to Deceive LLC. He works in the shop building, sculpting, fabricating, molding, painting, and designing specialty props and prosthetic makeup appliances. He has worked with many major networks including: HBO, STARZ, Netflix, NBC, ABC, Amazon Prime and comedy central. Some of his credits include, Marvel’s the Punisher, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and The Defenders. As well as, ABC’s For Life, The plot against America, and the Jerry Bruckheimer show produced by Hightown. His big break came when the SYFY original show “Face Off’ approached him to compete in the series’ twelfth season. He made it on the show and placed fifth overall. We had a blast sitting down with Broadway’s favorite gal pal, dresser, and over all uber talented woman that is LJ Behlmann! What a treat getting to talk community and friendship with LJ! She’s been a costume dresser in theater for 7 years now! If you’re up in the Broadway world, you might have a caught a glimpse of LJ running through the backstage of your favorite Broadway houses! She most recently was apart of the costume crew for ‘Ain’t to Proud the musical ‘ before the pandemic kicked in! Along with the principle dresser for both Ariana DeBose in ‘Summer, Donna Summer the musical’ and Courtney Reed in ‘Aladdin the musical’ ! It’s no coincidence her stepping into these coveted roles backstage! LJ has gotten there with hard work, dedication and true love for her craft and those she works with! She gives us some insight into how her world looks today, with a less hectic schedule, calmer days unlike her usual running back and forth from her NY apt, to a Broadway stage door! Our guest today is none other than the gorgeous and insanely talented actress Ellen Tamaki. We sit down with Ellen as we discuss her journey into the entertainment industry.
